Romo did tell him what he did to protect the ball which waa have two hands on it in the pocket and practices that every moment. He did say as a mobile guy trying to run with 2 hands on it didn't really work so he carried it like a RB if he was leaving the pocket. So, basically, he had two different ways of holding the ball depending on if he was in the pocket or out of it.
He also made a comment to know the offense better than the coaches.
for ball security. For a quarterback, I think ball security comes from a combination of two factors: (1) the game slows down when QB's have experience with the offense and can get a better read of defensive rushing schemes; and (2) the QB senses pressure better by getting that clock in his head calibrated with the speed of the game.

Hated playing against him, but have to acknowledge his leadership and intangibles. That team fell apart and became lulz when he left.
