According to Shams, Thibs is the top candidate with atkinson getting an interview.
Miller will get a look as well and is expected to be offered a spot on coaching staff if he is not the head coach.
Knicks search will start once it is known they are done playing, if they return miller will be the coach.
Hey, if any of them can convince LaMelo to give a shit on defense and not be such a diva, it’ll help
Beyond the above, is he a guy that embraced the NBAs general direction, offensively speaking (stretch BIGs, eliminate post play and long 2s)?
Retaining Miller as HC would be awful. He had a hot start and seems to be a good enough guy but some of his rotations have been atrocious.
If you are going to trade for suoerstars go thibs or a more established coach, not that atkinson is not established but his best quality is development..
Thibs is not a players coach but i think more establushed players are more likely to listen to him..
Once the knicks struck out he was useless
I don't know why the Knicks want him so bad.

I am not saying he is some great developmentary coach but you cant say he is not great with young players..
Deng, rose, butler, gibson, noah, all young players who thrived
i am surprised because woj is a caa client
the offensive assistants are going to be a huge hire for thibs
Nobody ever accused the Minnesota young guys of having these traits.
2012 - 5
2013 - 23 (Rose missed entire season)
2014 - 28 (Rose played 10 games)
2015 - 11
2017 - 10
2018 - 4
I'd rather they didn't hire Thibs, but perhaps he's not quite a complete disaster offensively.
I hope that's the case. Rose seems to have hired some qualified people, but like Phil and Mills...Rose has never had this job or any other role in which he had to build a team. Jury's still out on him IMO.
As for the coach... I don't really want a one dimensional coach in here. We saw that with JVG, we saw it with Mike D. Atkins or Miller is my preference, but maybe there's someone we're not thinking of they could go with.
The knicks team option players should have value and all should be back unless we actually need the money for an actual very good player.
Hopefully there are teams that will be looking to save some money and will be willing to give up assets for essentially free money since most of these guys have very little guaranteed money

atkinson is not a great in game coach, the big knock is he is horrible game manager and his xs and os are not very good..
he is known for what he does in between games

Yeah, this. Thibs has some weird stigma's attached that just aren't based in reality.

Got rotational minutes, seemed to work well with the young guys and is fundamentally sound. I'm glad he's coming back. Not like cap space will be useful anytime soon.

I know. And we need to develop young guys, so he seems like he'd be good. But if he doesn't want to come here it's a moot point anyways.

At least we're not considering Mark Jackson. Gotta imagine that if Thibs gets the job, Ed Pinckney and Andy Greer will join the staff.

it also depends on what direction the Knicks go, if you are going youth movement thibs is not the best guy and atkinson should be the nukber 1 candidate..
But if the plan is to get superstars through trade or free agency atkinson is not the best candidate..
All superstars are pain in the asses and you need to build your system around them..

While Thibs arguably didn't get the most out of his players, Atkinson did and for a young team like the Knicks, that's extremely important. Dinwiddie, LeVert, and Allen all improved under Atkinson. D’Angelo Russell had his lone All-Star season with the Nets. He didn't have Durant, he had Irving for 20 games and he was a noted pain in the ass during that time, LeVert missed a lot of time...and despite all of that, the Nets were primed for the playoffs, were top-10 in defense, and solid in scoring.

True and I can't see how Leon Rose won't be a guy who goes after the stars. He is an agent after all.
When they hired Fisher, Kerr was the top choice, when they hired Hornacek I believe it was Rambis or Blatt, when they hired Fizdale it was less clear but I think it was Jackson early on and then Budenholzer when he became available.
