NFT: Amazon Prime streaming APPS recommendations ....

short lease : 5/27/2020 5:32 pm

I have had Prime for a while w/ Netflix. Recently though I just cancelled DirecTV (to expensive for content provided). The only reason I had it was for NY Giant games (I live out of state).

Any recommendation for Apps to go with Prime that will allow me access to News Networks, Sports, major networks (ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX), local channels? etc ...? Any good replacement Apps that can replace cable adequately - for people who have "Cut the Chord" that will cost me less than $2,000.00 a year? I do not expect to get everything I had from DirecTV .... but, even a little bit would be great.

I am sure that other people have started threads like this in the past so, I really did search the archives but, I only received recommendation results for shows - not Apps.

Thanks in advance ....

like Fubo for live tv, but I think you're getting into the $20 per month (or $2000 per year) range. I only used Fubo when I rented a house and they had it on Roku's (but I think it is available on fire stick too), but I thought it was pretty cool other than a peloton commercial every 3 minutes.

I think what happens with some cord cutters is when you add in all the separate packages (Netflix, Hulu plus, Fubo, etc.) they add up to more than you anticipate.

but if you want live TV if you don't get an HD antenna and just go with what you can pick up via antenna I think you need to pay for a service.

Thanks Pj - Friends of mine have also mentioned High def TV Antennas. I am looking into those as a local/live option.

Thanks for your input.

Don’t have an opinion on Fubo, just wanted to note the math is wrong - $20/mo is only $240/year.
You can add

the following free apps that give you a selection of movies and live TV including national news. Pluto, Crackle, Tubi, Stirr and of course Giants TV. I have Roku but I believe they will be available on a Firestick. Some are better than others of course, so keep that in mind.
Try this one out

There is an app that I was just starting to use when the virus broke called Mobdro. Had Yes Network, NHL Network, NFL Network and a bunch of other stuff. If your a hockey fan, it had all the Canadian SNY channels as well. Caveat is that the picture is NOT great, but its better than nothing:).
