The search for 23-year-old Peter Manfredonia, who was considered armed and dangerous, ended after police found him in Hagerstown, Maryland and took him into custody Link - ( New Window )
some town that is. This guy, the nut from 2012 AND the original "wood chipper" murderer in the '80s also was Newtown. As an aside, that guy was released from prison earlier this year.

I used to think that the Adam Lanza story was thematically linked to Newtown's Fairfield Hills.
For those not from the area, Fairfield Hills Hospital is a sprawling, former mental facility in Newtown, CT. In its hey day it must have been beautiful - groups of brick buildings like a classic college campus. Due to decreased funding, the hospital closed its doors in 1995. Owing to the run down but beautiful vibe, and bizarre extensive tunnel system, the site has since gained a reputation for being haunted, and was featured in an episode of MTV's Fear in 2000.
I haven't lived in the area for about a decade, but in the wake of the Lanza shooting it seemed sickeningly appropriate that such a thing could happen in the same town as such a visible reminder of our abandonment of the fight to help the mentally ill. And now Manfredonia - another psycho - from the same town. Fairfield Hills - ( New Window )

I know the place. It was made into a really top flight youth athletic facility. We played up there for Babe Ruth and American Legion ball when my son was playing.
