NGT - Panthers agree to deal with CB Eli Apple

Apple immediately became a starter for the Saints and held the job throughout 2019 until his season ended early because of a Week 16 ankle injury.

His size and length make him an asset in man coverage, and he helped steady the Saints defense as they finished 13-3 in both 2018 and 2019.

might have the three best passing offenses in the league. If not, definitely three of the best at least potentially.

Brees, Thomas, Emmanuel Sanders, etc.
Ryan, Jones, Ridley, etc.
Brady, Evans, Gronk, Godwin, etc.

Safe to say Apple will be tested.

for him.
I don't care

about bashing Apple but I think he's still been quite inconsistent since leaving the Giants. He had 2 INTs in 2018 and zero in 2019. He also led the Saints in penalties in 2018 (despite only playing 8 games for them) and 2019.

Great athlete, bad instincts, and I'm going to guess still immature based on the way the offseason played out.
He’s a NFL player but

not a dependable starter.
I wonder if he'll have a career like

DeAngelo Hall. After leaving his first team, Hall went on to have a relatively quite 15 yr career.

Apple isn't as fast, or as good as Hall. But I speculate if he'll end up with a long CB career in the NFL. Not as a star, but as a starter... somewhere.
That pick still pisses me off

Why didn't the Saints hold onto him?

He's worse than Prince and he's been around a bit. Jumping from team to team.

DeAngelo Hall was a Pro Bowler in 2005 and 2006 with his original team the Falcons. Eli Apple hasn’t sniffed a Pro Bowl, not even as the 10th alternate. I don’t know where you are getting that comparison.
