19.5 sacks and 6 interceptions in 5 + seasons despite only 12 total starts. On today’s team he’d be an all pro ... Man, the Giants of the 80s knew how to find linebackers.
too funny!! I was at the 1985 Sunday night game vs. Dallas (fumbled snap loss). All he did was talk to the girls calling him during the game. No wonder Parcells lost patience with hom.
I liked Headon a lot. He leapt over both LT the QB to get the funmble. The entire DL escorts him down the field. And Dallas gets a penalty on top of it all. Madden in his prime, minimal on screen graphics... those were the days. LOL I forgot all about Hogeboom.
I still think the 1984 New York Giants highlight tape is the best one, from the music, over-the-top narration by Gifford, opening, ending... just a well produced video.
Do you have the 1995 Giants-Redskins away game where Vencie Glenn returns a pick for a TD?
I don't have that one. I've been trading games with a few collectors and I'll ask for it. The mid 90s games are tougher to find. I have more or less every game from the 1980s and late 2000s on. But there is a hinterland in the mid 1990s and then the early 2000s as VCRs started going away and Tivo started up.
I think that was the play that told me that the Giants were finally onto something after a few up-and-down years. To absolutely smash two NFC East rivals to start the season was a good feeling.
My other prevailing memory of Headen is from Super Bowl XXI, when he yelled at the cameras to "get the fuck outta here" in the pre-game huddle, right on live TV.
If the QB didnt look for where LT was before the snap he deserves to get crushed. If he saw him and didnt shift the protection or check to a run he deserves to get crushed.
I remember McConkey talking about Conrad Goode in his book
They were roommates at training camp McConkey's first year. McConkey said something like, "Day one, I meet this guy who is huge and built like a Greek god - what am I doing here?"
He also said Goode could pick up women "just by breathing".

Hah! Remember it well. I was 10 years old watching that Super Bowl. Dad laughed at that moment, mom was annoyed.

the "great" Gary Hogeboom. Proof that backup QB back then was the best job in the world. Everyone in Dallas wanted Danny White out because they lost 3 straight NFC Title games, but moreso because he wasn't Roger Staubach. It split the team and accelerated their demise.
The recent compilation of LT against the run demonstrated his uncanny ability to shed or avoid blocks at the line over and over again. (A poster on that thread marveled that even when LT was blocked he wasn't blocked.) I guess we fans at the time just took it for granted; it is amazing to watch now, after experiencing the last decade of LBs.
Is the best football player to ever play the game. Nobody ever dominated a game like he did. I miss him. And if anyone disagrees they are clearly stupid or were unfortunate enough to not have seen him play live. Some are too young and that’s too bad. Every Giants fan should have had the pleasure to watch the dude play football.

Darn near impossible for any Giant fan to argue, difficult for any fan who saw him play to argue. He set the tone, he was the buzz, for that era of NYGiants football, and it was glorious. And, man, seeing Simms drop back, pump fake and look back to Williams, I forgot how much I loved his game. 21 of 24? First guy there to hug Headen? George Martin. What a team that was, what a time that was.

That always made me laugh when I re-watched my tape of the game. Sadly, I no longer have any of my tapes,
I would surmise that's what Hogeboom is saying at 0:36.
Hogeboom is one of those guys who demanded to be started or traded, then stunk it up when he got the chance.

What are they now?

Nice replay of Kevin Belcher in pass protection.
Tragic that Kevin's career ended the following January with a car crash. Kevin died at the age of 42 in 2003.
I have Conrad Goode's autograph! ha ha ha
What I noticed was how "skinny" he was.
And wow, picking up a blitz after passing off the initial block. Can we get that back?

for him to become a beast OT, never happened.

He timed that blitz perfectly. Rushed between the LT and LG.

On a side note, I really miss madden and summerall. The way they worked the game together, how they called the game and how they let the game breathe.
Really takes me back
THis is one of the favorite regular season games I ever went to. Nobody ever thought the Giatns would put a whoopin' on Dallas like 28-7. Good times!

"THAT IS FOOTBALL!!" says it all. One of my favorite games ever. Snow, cold, pads popping. You don't see that today.
I was thinking of that hit too.

There's a lot to like in the video linked in the original post - Taylor, Headen, the whole D, those unis and the great crowd. And the 21-0 score.
How is BBI not verified?
