Good listen. Some tibits:
1) BB had them watch the NBC telecast of the Raiders Bills 90 AFC title game so the defense could get a sense of Buffalo's timing & how the Giants could make calls/checks.
2) Felt like the Giants should have won it in '89. Sometime after Super Bowl XXV, he's hanging out with Everett & Anderson & the two are giving him grief over the '89 divisional game. Collins says something like, 'I won the Super Bowl. You guys didn't.
3) Hated Handley. He tells a story about how, after a loss to the Tommy Maddox led Broncos, Collins lost it on Handley post game when Ray is parroting the same old lines after every loss.
4) Thought Art Monk was the best WR he faced. Collins said he has a good relationship with Irvin.
5) Thinks the Giants were still talented post XXV, but other teams were just better, i.e. Dallas, Washington, SF. The Giants were on the decline.
Good interview. Collins came across like a good dude. He was very complimentary of the Giants fan base. I loved Collins growing up. Next to Hampton, probably my favorite Giant as a youth.
He was an excellent player. Our amazing LB corps took a lot of attention away from other guys on the D. I mean when you have guys like Taylor, Banks, Johnson, etc. on your D other strong players get somewhat overlooked.
The fact that Giant castoff Wayne fucking Haddix made a pro bowl will always irk me.
He said California.
He said California.
I believe he played at Cal State-Fullerton, so that would make sense.
And I'm not surprised to read his thoughts on Handley. As I remember it, he was outspoken at the time too. I remember him mocking Rod Rust's defense, saying something like "Read and react....I don't even know what that means. I'm used to just hitting the guy with the ball"
One side note about Collins. He did a great impersonation of all the characters of The Simpsons.
