is a bigger development project in the area around Citifield - similar in some ways it sounds like to what the Krafts have done around Gillette with Patriot Place.
They have consulted with Kraft it seems, but the article mentions the Krafts aren't interested in buying a baseball team. It will be interesting to see if they invest.
As much as I hate the Patriots, Patriot Place is pretty cool.
need to sell, sick of this drama, just get the transaction done and we can stop talking about their incompetence forever. I prefer they sell to Cohen, but if they can get enough cash and fulfill their vision, the JROD ownership could work.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but weren't the Pats THIS close to moving to St. Louis & becoming like the St. Louis Stallions? I think they had the logo & everything ready.

Orthwein planned to move to STL. He was from there, but ironically Kraft blocked it (he wouldn't let him break the stadium lease or something like that and Kraft owned the stadium - for years before buying the team).
Kraft then bought the team and used Hartford, CT as a pawn (threatening to move to Hartford - and even allowing the builders to break ground on a stadium site) to get infrastructure funding from MA to build a new stadium in Foxborough.
Isn't this the third go round now? They were in and then backed out. No, they're in again. Wait, no they aren't. They're back again.
I think a few things have happened:
1. COVID lingering perhaps causing some Wilpon desperation
2. Including at least part of SNY
3. The plans for building up willets point
I think it's always been about money, but now I think it could be more attractive to get the money from investors than it was before and maybe the price becomes more reasonable. I won't pretend to know the Wilpons financial situation but I have read it described as "tenuous"
but mostly I agree. I think most Mets fans are so desperate to have new ownership these stories get amplified. And no one even knows what philosophy new owner would have to see if they're better than the Wilpons.
If, BIG IF, it happens. Then Alex did his homework here!!! There is one and on,y one hot button for Fred, and it’s always been about building around the ballpark. Which is how/why Jeff slid into the role HE wanted. Again, big IF but I think there is way more flames than just smoke since this centers inFreds one hot button that isn’t well known...
All those years as a New York Yankee and he does not understand the team across the river is a total disgrace. If he is so desperate to throw away millions just start your own franchise your chance of success is about 35/65 which is about the same with those guys. What’s the point in buying a team with little or no future that will put you way behind in money lost compared to money you have to loose? I know he has some money but can he afford to loose millions for years while he tries to pay himself and build a winning team. The money lost can’t matter to someone with a real goal of bringing that franchise out of the dark ages.

It'a a negotiation. Negotiations like this aren't unusual in either sports or show business. IIRC Plaxico Burress was interested, then he wasn't, then he signed.
wearing their striped 90s parachute pants and sporting their John Franco moustache.
There hasn’t been a Mets bandwagon in at least 20 years; probably more like 30.
They seem to come out of the woodwork and swarming with their collective hive mind during a playoff run, like John Franco moustache sporting cicadas.
That’s pretty much true for any fanbase. For example look, at the average attendance at Yankee Stadium in the 80s and early 90s (the last time the were bad for an extended period of time.) It was in the 20,000s many of those years. When they are contending, it’s in the high 40k to 50k range.

What, you mean the pink Yankee hats weren't for diehard fans?
And all those girls/women wearing Jeter jerseys weren't diehards, either?
LOL...

they reopened in 1976 with an average attendance of over 25k and only dipped below that a few times until the won in 1996. The rest from there we all know.
The Yankees brand also surged during this time and they’ve had their own network for almost 20 years. If they ever dip to 20k attendance again it would likely be game over for the MLB in its current form.
Of course there’s plenty of bandwagon fans but their attendance has historically been strong even during title droughts.

This post was made sober? impressive economic theory and use of the word "loose" ...
Anyway, the Wilpons were in tenuous financial shape before CV which has hammered the commercial real estate market in the metro area... i'm surprised we havent read more about the sharks circling.

Are you suggesting the Iron Triangle leaves something to be desired?

Well if you want your car detailed (or chopped) you could do worse. lol.

That said I'll swallow my concerns to see the back of the worst NY sports franchise ownership in history.

Any coalition without Jeffy is a giant leap forward.
If you're talking about Arod... nothing closet about it.. he's been very clear over the years he grew up a Mets fan, particularly a big fan of Keith.
LOL... my bad

Fred Durst of Limp Biskit too :-)

That would suck for the stolen auto parts business
