Anyone else really frustrated that the NFL didn’t adopt the

sky judge? The system works so well in college and the NFL’s refereeing is so awful that I’d have thought it was a no brainer.
The shoddy refereeing pisses me off to no end.

College gets it right and there is zero reason for the NFL to not. So much at stake every game for these teams and players, and the NFL bungles it week after week, year after year. Pathetic to continue to allow human error to cost games over and over.
The CFL does a lot better with officiating, too.

So does organized baseball and the NHL.

It is totally inexcusable that the NFL has such effing terrible officiating.

And it's not the damn complicated rules, either.

It's the morons in the stripes and the guys who are telling them what to do who are at fault.

This shit poor officiating has gone on for decades and is one of the major factors driving me away from the game.

The league and the networks have crammed the stadiums and broadcast full of tech and fans view the game through that spectrum.

And instead of using all that tech to assist the refs, they have a half dozen old guys chasing word class athletes around a giant field, making multi-variable judgement calls.

Think for a second the number of variables the officials have to observe on a sideline catch. Did the player get 2 feet in, did he maintain possession, did he not step out before, did he not push off before, did the defender not push off or interfere, did the defender hit him late, did the defender hit him high.

And then to add poetic embarrassment to the situation, when something is reviewed, the fans in the stadium are watching on a hundred foot wide ultra high definition screen and they drag out a tiny tablet under a towel for the official.

Obvious that they have no interest in getting the calls right, what they want is as much control as they can get, its for cheating when it suits them, I am sick and tired trying defend and justify it even as stupidity, who are the stupid ones paying the freight and buying their bullshit, we are, this is inexcusable and they are ruining the game, making things so complicated that it gives them an excuse to making mistakes, this is bullshit.

I've watched a lot of college football over the last two years and
markky : 5/30/2020 12:49 pm : link
i've never come away from a game thinking the officiating unfairly affected the outcome or even that the refs blew it. however, i often feel that way after watching an NFL game, even games where i have no rooting interest.

it's just ridiculous.

Yes

and it’s been frustrating for a long time now how they won’t adopt things that would clearly help.

I’m looking forward to football returning but it won’t take long for me to stop caring again. The NFL doesn’t deserve my full attention and support.

That’s exactly how I see it. It’s a disgrace that they don’t want to fix this problem. It shows complete contempt for the fans.

the NFL doesn't want an immediate ruling
gtt350 : 5/30/2020 5:38 pm : link
they need time for commercials $$$$$$$$$

More accurate officiating will most definitely mean more stoppages.

I've never understood the complaining over games being too long. The three or so hours a week the Giants are on, are the only three hours I get uninterrupted all week.

I often see these "get off my lawn" type posts, but I find it difficult to view it as anything more than hyperbole when someone posting on a board dedicated to the NFL says that they are being driven away from the game.

Serious question for Torrag and PaulN
CT Charlie : 5/30/2020 9:27 pm : link
I'm curious to know how you think this deliberate cheating works. Who tells the refs whom to favor? Does Gooddell text somebody? Late night phone calls? Does one of his assistants nod to the crew judge right after the coin toss? Prior to the season, is there an orientation session where some League office guy tells all the refs to favor certain teams? Is any of this related to gambling?

I think it's likely that the league decides how strict or lenient enforcement of calls should be. Like everybody, I think it was a League decision not to overrule the PI calls this season unless somebody was murdered. And I think the league office is happy for the extra commercial revenue that booth replays bring. Beyond that, though, I just can't picture a situation in which NFL headquarters is engineering the outcome of a game.

Thank you for being a voice of reason. 🙌
The NFL refs
BigBlueCane : 5/31/2020 9:31 am : link
decided they weren't going to enforce or use the challenge system implemented last year and this year its gone.

Same shit with the Sky judge. The Refs don't want to be called out and said no.
