As CNN said right after the launch a FEEL GOOD moment for the American people to watch when maybe it is a good thing to have to watch at a time when there is mostly bad news .
Amazing.

For the old-timers like myself it takes me back to my childhood watching the Apollo missions. The advances made since then are jaw dropping. Amazing accomplishment and should be celebrated. Godspeed to the brave astronauts.

NASA hasn’t decided when the pair will head home; it’ll be sometime between the next six and 16 weeks. When that decision is made, Behnken and Hurley will climb back into their Crew Dragon capsule and begin the intense journey back through our planet’s atmosphere. The Crew Dragon is equipped with a heat shield to protect the astronauts from the fiery descent, and the capsule has a suite of four parachutes designed to open and gently lower the vehicle into the Atlantic Ocean. After splashdown, a SpaceX recovery boat will greet the crew and take them and their capsule back to shore.

A question
giantfan2000 : 5/31/2020 12:48 pm : link
everyone is saying this is the first private company to put a man into space

but this milestone was really a Government contract like the previous NASA missions

NASA never built rockets but private companies.. -- Boring Douglas and North American Aviation did .

I guess as best you could say SpaceX was first private company to solely build a rocket that carried men into Space.

just find the semantics a bit odd..

The rocket and the vehicle are both private. It's a culmination of a nearly 14 year program that started with the COTs project in 2006.

SpaceX routinely landing rockets is really one of the most amazing engineering achievements of this century.

This moves NASA squarely out of the manufacturing busines, and back into the exploration business.

I believe that NASA and the

US Gov't actually developed the prior vehicles. While private companies did the actual construction of the parts, the design was mainly by NASA.
SpaceX was designed by Elon Musk's company and it met specs to meet the requirements of NASA.

I believe that is the best way to explain it.
