What tires me though a little is another season of axe vs chuck. Sure, they're good as opponents, but get creative.
Didn’t they do it for one season (at least on the surface)?
they became allies for part of last season, but it was short lived. I didn't expect it to last, but was looking for some new blood, a new enemy and something, but I guess the show is axe vs chuck and that's how it's going to remain.
given we're all thirsty for entertainment these days and some of the characters are still funny.... and yes, Wendy is a smokeshow...
but its definitely lost its fastball the last year or two. It was one thing when Axe was this cant do wrong genius... but now Wendy is a superhero who never makes mistakes or loses either.
One show the wife and I started watching, had never heard about it pre-lockdown, is Succession on HBO. I like it so far!

agree on the portrayal of Wendy. It's a little tiresome seeing her ALWAYS know the best course of action or the right thing to say in scenes where there's no shortage of brilliant people.
season 2 was better than season 1 IMO which I guess is a rarity (?) - though both seasons were really good. Really good cast, great characters, and good plots.
main characters are all that easy to root for. Especially this season, and especially with the world on the shape it is in.
It's hard to root for one billionaire over the other and who will make more billions. Good actors though, and I especially like Condola Rashad, who plays Sacker. Great actress great character.
good show and both maggie and condola are very sexy women...
Isnt that the point? Sopranos tried to convey the same emotional response
I don't think it's quite the same, in fact I think many (most?) people who watched the Sopranos were in fact fans of Tony. Cinema and TV has almost romanticized the mafia. Watching Goodfellas for example, weren't most viewers fans of Henry Hill, and Tommy and even Jimmy Conway until he turned paranoid.
Not sure there is a perfect parallel to Billions.
A billionaire hedge fund owner who amassed the bulk of his wealth shorting travel and transportation industry stocks in the immediate aftermath of 9-11 (like before the 2nd plane hit the 2nd tower immediate). He was in the process of being fired by his firm because they speculated illegal trading on his part - and he was meeting with a labor attorney the morning of 9-11 to discuss his separation package - that is the only reason he wasn't in his office when the planes hit (becoming the sole survivor of his firm) and a DA who has a corrupt stink about him not to mention his public humiliations. It's typical cops vs bad guys only both are unlikable so in the end you (me) appreciate the acting and the supporting casts and the interesting plots, but the protagonist is hard to find. For some it's ax, for some it's probably Chuck, for some it may be Wendy or Taylor or Sacker or Wags (hard to believe he was Gale in breaking bad)
has been discussed here before. I like it far more than Billions.
If anyone likes depressing shows, watch I Know this Much is True on HBO. Unrelentingly grim.
I've been watching I know this much is true and I agree with your assessment. They seem to be outdoing themselves on depressing drama with each new episode.
hyper-intelligent people scheme, although this is the most "convenient" of those types of those shows. But like all shows in this vain, it gets more and more ridiculous each season.
I've enjoyed the Michael Prince character this season. Corey Stoll is doing a good job going toe to toe with Bobby.

Agree, having a new foil for Axe has been a really good addition to the show. Especially one who’s portrayed as being more honorable and upstanding (although they’re dropping hints he won’t be able to maintain that act).
Wendy has always been fascinating (and hot), but I’m finding her story getting tired. I’m almost rooting for her to have a downfall, bc they’re so over the top about how she’s so smart and always right.
Rich A-holes screwing over each other is amusing.
Can't really get into Succession. Those Roy kids and the SIL just skeeve me out. My wife likes it though.
it's not that they're smarter than you that's annoying. It's the fact that nobody talks like that 100% of the time, which is annoying AF. Everyone is extremely up on old cultural references, foreign language phrases, come on.
Other than that, the show is what it is. I don't necessarily need every season to be better than the last, that's a bit unrealistic.
Do agree that Wendy being written as this perfect person is a bit long in the tooth (but she's a Bronx Science alum so it's all good, haha jk). Chuck I think annoys probably more because of Giamatti than anything else. I like Giamatti but in a series I can see how he's wearing. I loved Sideways but 60 hours of it would get a bit much I think.
Would the show have this elitist dialogue with a different protagonist? Maybe not.

It is more than the dialogue. Each of the characters can generally instantly read the motives of others and who is behInd everything almost instantly and easily manipulate others (and much more). Being a dumb Brooklyn Tech guy, I can’t do any of this stuff.
I had similar problems with the main characters in Atlas Shrugged and the Fountainhead decades ago when I read those.

anyway, just my opinion.

You're right, the omnipotence is annoying.
