CBS Sports Giants Franchise Five.

Jalapeno : 6/1/2020 8:28 pm
Manning.
Taylor.
Strahan.
Brown.
Parcells.

Mine would be a little different.

But I don't know jack shit compared to 99% of you all.

Solid list, considering HC,

QB, & then non QB picks.
I think on a list like this you keep players separate from coaches...
Torrag : 6/1/2020 8:40 pm : link
execs and owners.

I also keep my list to players I've seen play so guys like Frank, Rosie and Sam have an iconic era based role but don't make my lists. My 5 are...

LT
Eli
Michael
Harry
Phil

My Honorable Mentions are Jessie and Tiki.
Also love that all 4 of the players
SFGFNCGiantsFan : 6/1/2020 8:42 pm : link
never played for another team besides the Giants. That means something to me at least. The thought of seeing Eli Manning in a Bears jersey or something...no thanks.
My other than players list is...
Torrag : 6/1/2020 8:44 pm : link
Bill
Tom
George
Wellington
Ernie
I was going to mention Gifford
Osi Osi Osi OyOyOy : 6/1/2020 8:45 pm : link
but they brought him up at the end, he's definitely the #1 player not on the list. Overall it seems like a fair list.

Tittle would make it if he played more years with us. Carson has an argument but it's tough to take him over Strahan. And Simms vs. Eli is a debate, but Eli's got a fairly clear edge there.
LT is 1st....if there is an order
George from PA : 6/1/2020 8:51 pm : link
Rosey Brown is probably the one that I would question....but who should replace....Frank Gifford, Coughlin, George Young....i would go with E.Tunnell

Question Rosy? He was one of the best OLTs that ever lived.
Emlen Tunnell
81_Great_Dane : 6/1/2020 10:50 pm : link
Yeah, I'd put him in my five. He's at least comparable to Strahan, and IMV a greater Giant than Parcells.
BB56......not exactly a long list
George from PA : 6/2/2020 4:18 am : link
Top 10....I would include Rosie.

I would replace with ET if only top 5.....
Taking into account everyone who has played since 1925
truebluelarry : 6/2/2020 6:05 am : link
I'd go with:

Steve Owen
Mel Hein
Emlen Tunnell
Roosevelt Brown
LT

They are all-time greats.

Players like Frank Gifford, Harry Carson, Micheal Strahan & Eli Manning would fill out the top 10.
My scope would be 1981 on
SLIM_ : 6/2/2020 7:26 am : link
I was 10 and we got season tickets that year.

-Taylor, Strahan, Eli, Parcells, Carson

I can’t argue with the original list but it is probably fair to have a Pre-merger, pre Super Bowl era list too, subbing Gifford for LT.

Players like Frank Gifford, Harry Carson, Micheal Strahan & Eli Manning would fill out the top 10.
I almost think there should be a pre-Super Bowl era group and post
Chris684 : 6/2/2020 8:10 am : link
The former would be:

Wellington
Hein
Brown
Tunnell
Gifford

Modern era would be:

Parcells
LT
Strahan
Coughlin
Eli

In this group you have the head coaches who evenly split 2 Super Bowls apiece and the best and most important player on each one's roster during both and also during their overall tenures. In Strahan you have the player who was sort of a bridge between both, has all the personal accolades, played in 2 Super Bowls, winning one.

It's near impossible to look at these franchises that have been around 100 years and pick just 5 names without glaring omissions.

Hmmm, really tough to narrow it to 5
Andy in Halifax : 6/2/2020 9:00 am : link
LT
Manning
Brown
Tunnell
either Strahan or Gifford... I will go Strahan.
Parcells can kiss my ass ...
Spider56 : 6/2/2020 9:01 am : link
He might have been on the list at one time but 1 ‘aw shit’ ( in the way he left the team in a lurch) wipes out all the ‘atta boys’. Add in Carson or Gifford to Eli, LT, Mikey and Roosevelt Brown. Giants for life only.
Boy, if you would have
Keaton028 : 6/2/2020 9:14 am : link
told me back in 2004 that one day we’d be debating putting Eli on an “All Time Giants” list... what a player he turned out to be after such an inconsistent start. Once a Giant, only a Giant.
Being a Giant lifer is not always a player’s option.
Ivan15 : 6/2/2020 9:30 am : link
Long list of players who were acquired but ended Their careers as Giants.

Maybe not all time greats but good enough to be in the Giants ring of honor.

Robustelli, Conerly, Webster, O’Hara, Tittle, many others.
Try to do a NYG “non-five”
The_Boss : 6/2/2020 9:31 am : link
Ereck Flowers
Eli Apple
Thomas Lewis
Tommy Maddox
Ray Handley
I didn’t dislike Wellington Mara but looking back on the Giants
Ivan15 : 6/2/2020 9:50 am : link
History, i think that Welly taking control of the team when Jack Mara passed was a greater cause of the long period of the Wilderness Years than any other reasons. The team got old and that started things but it was bad trades, bad drafting, bad decisions that led to the Giants inability to rebuild until George Young gained some control.

No way Wellington should be on a short list Of Giants greats.

On the other hand, Steve Owen should be on the very short list of great Giants coaches.
I never like lists like this because of whom is left out
joeinpa : 6/2/2020 9:54 am : link
Gifford
Simms
Carson
Spider
Y. A. T.
Rite

Etc
Etc

Don t have an argument with any of the lists above, just don’t like them in general

Like to hear from John Mara.
Simple
PaulN : 6/3/2020 10:17 am : link
LT, Rosey Brown, Tunnell, Eli, Mel Hein. Coach is Parcells, 2 rings and Jersey born makes it simple. Honorable mention, Frank Gifford, Andy Robustelli, YA Tittle, Sam Huff, Phil Simms, Harry Carson, Michael Strahan, and Tom Coughlin.
You know whats so funny about Tiki
cjac : 6/3/2020 11:19 am : link
nearing the end of his career he was definitely in my top 5 Giants of all time. I loved watching him play, some games he just took over all by himself. I remember 2 times he had 200+ all purpose yards and out gained the other team by himself. (Redskins, Chiefs)

The way he left the team, and the stupid shit he said after he left. I don't even think about him anymore.

He wouldn't even be in my top 20, i'd have Jacobs ahead of him.
I can only speak to the Super Bowl era
arniefez : 6/3/2020 11:29 am : link
The other Giant greats were before my time. But of the players and coaches I've seen it's an easy 4. Number 5 is a close call between Harry and Strahan

LT
Parcells
Eli
Simms
Carson

Looking at everything
PatersonPlank : 6/4/2020 11:02 am : link
Gifford
LT
Strahan
Eli
Emlen Tunnel

Honorable Mention:
Rosevelt Brown
Mel Hein
Phil Simms
Harry Carson
