never played for another team besides the Giants. That means something to me at least. The thought of seeing Eli Manning in a Bears jersey or something...no thanks.
but they brought him up at the end, he's definitely the #1 player not on the list. Overall it seems like a fair list.
Tittle would make it if he played more years with us. Carson has an argument but it's tough to take him over Strahan. And Simms vs. Eli is a debate, but Eli's got a fairly clear edge there.
In this group you have the head coaches who evenly split 2 Super Bowls apiece and the best and most important player on each one's roster during both and also during their overall tenures. In Strahan you have the player who was sort of a bridge between both, has all the personal accolades, played in 2 Super Bowls, winning one.
It's near impossible to look at these franchises that have been around 100 years and pick just 5 names without glaring omissions.
He might have been on the list at one time but 1 ‘aw shit’ ( in the way he left the team in a lurch) wipes out all the ‘atta boys’. Add in Carson or Gifford to Eli, LT, Mikey and Roosevelt Brown. Giants for life only.
told me back in 2004 that one day we’d be debating putting Eli on an “All Time Giants” list... what a player he turned out to be after such an inconsistent start. Once a Giant, only a Giant.
Being a Giant lifer is not always a player’s option.
History, i think that Welly taking control of the team when Jack Mara passed was a greater cause of the long period of the Wilderness Years than any other reasons. The team got old and that started things but it was bad trades, bad drafting, bad decisions that led to the Giants inability to rebuild until George Young gained some control.
No way Wellington should be on a short list Of Giants greats.
On the other hand, Steve Owen should be on the very short list of great Giants coaches.
I never like lists like this because of whom is left out
LT, Rosey Brown, Tunnell, Eli, Mel Hein. Coach is Parcells, 2 rings and Jersey born makes it simple. Honorable mention, Frank Gifford, Andy Robustelli, YA Tittle, Sam Huff, Phil Simms, Harry Carson, Michael Strahan, and Tom Coughlin.
nearing the end of his career he was definitely in my top 5 Giants of all time. I loved watching him play, some games he just took over all by himself. I remember 2 times he had 200+ all purpose yards and out gained the other team by himself. (Redskins, Chiefs)
The way he left the team, and the stupid shit he said after he left. I don't even think about him anymore.
He wouldn't even be in my top 20, i'd have Jacobs ahead of him.
The other Giant greats were before my time. But of the players and coaches I've seen it's an easy 4. Number 5 is a close call between Harry and Strahan
I also keep my list to players I've seen play so guys like Frank, Rosie and Sam have an iconic era based role but don't make my lists. My 5 are...
LT
Eli
Michael
Harry
Phil
My Honorable Mentions are Jessie and Tiki.
Tom
George
Wellington
Ernie
Tittle would make it if he played more years with us. Carson has an argument but it's tough to take him over Strahan. And Simms vs. Eli is a debate, but Eli's got a fairly clear edge there.
Question Rosy? He was one of the best OLTs that ever lived.
I would replace with ET if only top 5.....
Steve Owen
Mel Hein
Emlen Tunnell
Roosevelt Brown
LT
They are all-time greats.
Players like Frank Gifford, Harry Carson, Micheal Strahan & Eli Manning would fill out the top 10.
-Taylor, Strahan, Eli, Parcells, Carson
Steve Owen
Mel Hein
Emlen Tunnell
Roosevelt Brown
LT
They are all-time greats.
I can’t argue with the original list but it is probably fair to have a Pre-merger, pre Super Bowl era list too, subbing Gifford for LT.
Players like Frank Gifford, Harry Carson, Micheal Strahan & Eli Manning would fill out the top 10.
Wellington
Hein
Brown
Tunnell
Gifford
Modern era would be:
Parcells
LT
Strahan
Coughlin
Eli

Manning
Brown
Tunnell
either Strahan or Gifford... I will go Strahan.
Maybe not all time greats but good enough to be in the Giants ring of honor.
Robustelli, Conerly, Webster, O’Hara, Tittle, many others.
Eli Apple
Thomas Lewis
Tommy Maddox
Ray Handley
No way Wellington should be on a short list Of Giants greats.
On the other hand, Steve Owen should be on the very short list of great Giants coaches.
Simms
Carson
Spider
Y. A. T.
Rite
Etc
Etc
Don t have an argument with any of the lists above, just don’t like them in general
Like to hear from John Mara.
The way he left the team, and the stupid shit he said after he left. I don't even think about him anymore.
He wouldn't even be in my top 20, i'd have Jacobs ahead of him.
LT
Parcells
Eli
Simms
Carson
LT
Strahan
Eli
Emlen Tunnel

Rosevelt Brown
Mel Hein
Phil Simms
Harry Carson
