His outlet passes after a rebound to start the Bullets fast break we’re extraordinary.
His battles against Reed and Chamberlain were fantastic for a 6’7” center.
RIP
Unseld v Reed, became an almost annual Playoffs showdown for a number of years. A warrior in his own right and a good man. Sorry to see this, too young

The best outlet passer I've ever seen, he was remarkable. A short, immobile center who gave some of the best to ever play the position fits. RIP to a great.
King of the two handed over the Head Outlet pass.....
First saw him at the NIT Tournament in Madison Square Garden in i think 1967.
Favorites where StJohns with Sonny Dove and Rudy Bogard. Columbia had Heyward Dotson and 7 foot 4 inch Dave Newmark and Louisville had Wes Unseld.
Wes did six things really well his whole career:
1) He took up significant square footage in or near the paint.
2) he was immovable
3) taller guys were always at and angle trying to get over him...he had huge thighs and was a total brick house.
4) He was a very smart player at positioning and defense
5) He was a great passer
6) He played hard every time
As a few here have stated his two handed outlet passes were a thing to behold. For my money nobody could touch him when it came to starting the fast break.
I read a sports mag. after he was drafted. The article went on to say he was too small and would never make it as a center and was not quick enough to play forward. Basically said it was a wasted pick. Yikes were they wrong.
Willis has a tape on you tube where he said he was the best offensive rebounding center in the game because he would see the shot coming and push you until you looked up and you were helplessly directly below the net and Unseld had 90% the angles that could occur after the shot covered before the shot got there.
As good as Kareem when passing to the cutter or using the give and go.
Although seemingly slow, he was always in fast follow once he sent the outlet pass ( if it was an outlet on his side of the half court.)
Tremendous long range passer...always in stride to guys back when they called traveling.
Just a great technician combined with a very hard worker overcame his height and guy who couldn't jump higher than most of us can

Wasn't he the center who took the ball in both hands, placed it behind his head, and launched it down court to whomever he was looking for ... with extreme accuracy? Very unique delivery ....

Yes. He was something. Couldn't jump a lick, but good luck trying to box him out.
RIP Wes....you were an all-time great!

Unseld had 20 rebounds in that game as Baltimore out-rebounded the Knicks 61-38.
