are these largely the same set of writers who vote for HOF?

Eli has been so well liked by the writers over the years, I would assume that would tilt the scale on any HOF fence-sitting, no?

Yes, I'm sure many are.

I've always said, and I think we're seeing it play out now, that history will be kinder to Eli Manning once he retired than it was while he was playing.

They also just announced the retirement of his jersey at Ole Miss scheduled for this fall, yesterday. Only the third player to have their jersey retired. Archie's is also retired.

Love this.

Going to miss him. But Jones really seems to be cut from similar cloth.
agreed about history being kinder

I've been preaching that for a while now. You can't really rip on Eli anymore for a good story. Recognizing who he is both on and off the field will be getting him plenty of HoF votes.

Yep, I agree with you on this. Locally, I think we'll see Darnold and Jones (though I hope not) struggle a bit on bad teams and people in the local media will be reminded it isn't so easy to accomplish what Eli accomplished. It also helps him that no other surefire HOFers retired with him - Brady, Belichick, Brees, Fitzgerald, Peterson and Gore are all playing in 2020.
Other prior winners include

Tiki Barber, Brett favre and Aaron Rodgers.

Eli Manning only talked to media on Mondays after losses, not wins, so he could take the blame but not steal any credit from teammates. But once he was about to face the Patriots after a W. We asked him to make an exception because, well, it's the Patriots. He agreed. Pro's pro.

The NFL and the Giants have placed Eli Manning front and center as a face of their respective organizations, he's won the Walter Payton Man of the Year, his successes are plastered across the NFL's media, and his station as NFL royalty is always part of the story.

He's a super star, champion, 200s time over millionaire, and his exit was chock full of accolades, homages, and appreciation.

There's a small minority of fans who neg him and neg Giants fans about him, and there is a small minority of writers that focus on his shortcomings.

I can't imagine how much more kind the future will be to him, when the present is incredibly complimentary of him.
Thanks for posting about this, Britt

Eli has been the scape goat for these recent nightmare seasons, so it's been nice seeing him get some well deserved accolades since retirement.
Who he is off the field should have no more bearing on

whether he gets in the Hall than who LT is off the field should have kept him out of it.

Of course it doesn't and shouldn't; however, we know that if the some writers will give Eli the nod over someone else for Eli being a nice guy that they like off the field if the voting is relatively close.

Besides both being Giants and both being two time world champions, what exactly to LT and Eli have in common?

Nothing, nada, zilch...

Except a fierce desire to win inside each man.

Poor comparison.

No, it's a very good point. If we as Giants fans want to dismiss who LT was off the field, we don't get to use off-the-field accolades in Eli's favor. Choose whichever way you prefer, but it's completely hypocritical to dismiss LT's off-the-field behavior and celebrate Eli's. Either the off-the-field behavior is a significant factor or it's not, but let's not act like Cowboys fans and only pay attention to our players' behavior when it's convenient.
I just can't believe Britt was the one to find this breaking story
