IMO, the best sequence from the '86 49ers playoff game

Eric from BBI : Admin : 6/25/2020 9:56 am
Back-to-back plays... ripped the heart out of the 49ers...

BigBlueVCR @BigBlueVCR

Madden/Summerall at their best. As the 1986 beatdown of SF in the playoffs by #NYGiants was happening you had this sequence. @CarlBanksGIII forced a bad pass & pick. Next play- Morris TD. Summerall simply said "Morris is gone" & they let the crowd tell the story. #GiantsPride

and was impressed by how quickly into the play Summerall calls Morris gone...
The blocking on that play was incredible.

I hope the Giants can get back to blocking like that again some day.
the plays are amazing, but my favorite thing about these snippets

is Pat Summerall. He's the last announcer who remembered that TV is a visual medium.

Morris. He's gone . Crowd noise. LOVE IT
You had to be there

the old stadium was a tremendous home field advantage and a great place to watch football.

Beating the mighty 49ers that badly is still thrilling after all these

years. Yeah, '86 wasn't their best year, but they were still the Niners and Joe Montana.
Herb Welch!

Always liked that guy. Even Jerry Rice can't bring him down!
... and Morris is gone!

I agree, loved Pat Summerall's understated, but spot on play by play.

And by the way, F the 49ers and their bandwagon fans!
2007 style upsets
bluepepper : 6/25/2020 11:26 am : link
and nail-biters are great and all but just completely whupping everyone's ass like the 1986 team did is still the best.
What a hole to run through

Its been a long time since we've seen something like that.

Amen. Summerall and Madden knew when to shut up and let the game action or crowd reaction speak for itself. Unlike most of today's announcers, who think they get paid by the word
thank god for the mute button

Left and middle of the Oline had them 4-5 yards beyond the LOS when Morris went thru. Wow.
For me, the last two minutes of the first half

...of that game are one of the most enjoyable moments in NYG history.

Two personal favorites from that game:

"We got a fake here..." https://youtu.be/0Z-niWc7yUM?t=3115

"Simms, with people in his face..." https://youtu.be/0Z-niWc7yUM?t=3329 (an incredibly gutsy -and perfect- throw by Phil Simms)

Not true.

Do you know what Bill Walsh thought of that? If not, let me tell/remind you. When asked what if the 49ers would have scored there, he said that they would have lost 49-10.

Walsh was extremely complimentary of the Giants in defeat. He said that his squad was shattered by a great team in the Giants and that the Giants would go on to win the Super Bowl. That play meant diddly pooh.

Indeed, and the crowd was knowledgeable about the game, and thank God no cell phones or corporate clowns talking crap about anything but football...

This is why I say B.S. to that...that was the 49ers first drive and the Giants couldn't stop them...I believe he was being nice to say that...

Bullshit. W=alsh was right, as were alot of commentaries after the game.

And besides, Walsh was a genius.
the Rice drop stuff is hilarious
bluepepper : 6/26/2020 12:25 pm : link
It was 49-3 in the 3rd quarter for goodness sakes. We pulled our starters and went easy on them after that.
