NFT: Reservoir Tavern in Boonton, NJ

Have any of you been to this off the path gem? It’s pretty amazing and I highly recommend it. Saquon was there last October and Barstool just visited as well.

Awesome atmosphere too! Never had a bad meal there.
Thanks for the heads up

I watched the review
pjcas18 : 6/26/2020 9:06 am : link
looked greasy.

I'd try it though if I was in the area, atmosphere looked awesome and that (for some reason) factors in to his pizza ratings.
i used to love his pizza reviews

it was the only thing barstool was worth following for. But now they are 4 minutes long, full of gimmicks and ads. I stopped.

But i really do relate to Prez with the pizza reviews. If you can't do good plain pizza than I don't want your other pizza with a bunch of topping on it. So we are in agreement there.
Love greasy pizza - its hard to get outside of the NJ/NY area

Agreed. It also seems like his base line scoring has increased. A lot of these "football" pizzas used to be high 5s/low 6s, now they all seem to be in the upper 6s
Grew up in Parsippany

Reservoir was consistently the best pizza in the area (Parsippany, Boonton, Rockaway). It was a thinner crust. Another place, Testaduro's (not there anymore) had a thicker crust, maybe baked a minute less, was their main competition. Reservoir was, back in the day, the standard dark paneling, checkered table cloths, bar serving Bud, Pabst, and Schlitz. Haven't been there in years, but some old friends still swear by it.
Their large pie, which Dave had

Is super greasy and gets messy. Love the pizza there but I prefer the medium or bar pie. They're less greasy and less messy.
It's excellent

and would highly recommend...everything on the menu is solid...
I'll second it!

Just had pizza and a few other dishes as I was visiting my sis this past week. Rails is also a quality place for food, highly recommend their happy hour specials once they fully open up.
I always dab my pizza grease with a paper towel

Especially if it’s pepperoni. I thought everyone did this?

not far from there, so I went there a lot as a kid. I moved away and stopped in there last year for the first time in about 25 years, and it amazed me how nothing had changed in the bar section. Same pictures, same smell. Definitely had a Proust moment there. Oh yeah, and the pizza was still phenomenal.

I stopped in Oakland on the way to Hershey one year for lunch. Went to a random pizza place/sub shop - in a strip mall. It was actually really good. No one ate pizza, but the subs and garlic knots were good. I'm sure that narrows it down for you.
Thin crust pizza in NJ?

Vic's in Bradley Beach. Their pizza is so damn good.

That would be Juniors. Solid. I can bike there from my house in under a minute.

lol, I guess it did narrow it down. I looked it up and saw the pictures - that's exactly it. Good spot.
Ha nice

I was gonna saying it could be Franks which is up the street a bit in the other strip mall with the farmers market but I figured coming off the highway (287) the first thing you’d see is that little strip.
I live 5 minutes from the tavern.

Never ate there. So after seeing this thread I order a pizza. They tell me it's going to be am hour for a pick up. I show up an hour later and they tell me it's going to be another half hour. This better be the best pizza I ever eat or I'll be pissed.

Well...?
In north Bergen county we are surrounded,
BlueLou'sBack : 6/27/2020 3:19 am : link
nay inundated with great thin crust pizzas all around us: Nellie's, Natale's, and Circolo in Waldwick alone, Kinchley's in Ramsey, and I can read from Google reviews and past readers' polls awards that THE Pizza Parlor in Wyckoff must also make a great thin crust "NY style" pie.

I can't imagine schlepping to Boonton to try a pizza, unless I'm there already.

Seriously, there's a plethora of great pizza surrounding us in North Bergen county.

Had a great "white pizza" earlier tonight at Circolo, and the appetizers were simply perfect to boot: clams casino (by special request) and fresh roasted sweet red bell peppers.
The review itself was schlocky
BlueLou'sBack : 6/27/2020 3:21 am : link
even tacky. Not much effort nor any originality in it.

They all are - other than originality of the production - he kind of made this famous - or his spin on it. But yeah, tacky sure, I mean the guy says "one bite everyone knows the rules" and he clearly takes a lot of bites. every time.

but he likes the same style pizza as me, he often says "new haven is the pizza capital of the world" so I trust his judgment most times. But I wish he'd leave atmosphere/experience out of it and focus on the pizza. The walls at Sallys in New haven are covered in old time memorabilia - pictures of Frank Sinatra, Joe Dimaggio, politicians, heads of state, athletes, entertainers, etc. eating there and it's cool - I always look at them, but if the pizza is shitty I'm not going back.

Took 2 hours
fireitup77 : 6/27/2020 11:17 am : link
To get the pizza. It wasn't like they were pushing out pies left and right. It was average. There are a couple places around here that are a lot better.
What places?
Saquads26 : 6/27/2020 2:01 pm : link
I’ve found nothing even close in the area that’s as good

On rt 46 by the Home Depot for one.

A bit of a drive but Nonna's in Florham Park is excellent too.
