Phil Simms comes off of the bench to win 1991 game

Eric from BBI : Admin : 6/26/2020 8:58 am
Bad year, but great moment for Phil Simms.

BigBlueVCR @BigBlueVCR
In 1991, visiting Tampa Bay for the first time since Super Bowl XXV, the #NYGiants were tied late in the game against the Bucs. @PhilSimmsQB came off the bench to replace Hostetler who was injured earlier and Simms would hit Stephen "TD Maker" Baker late for the win #GiantsPride

with that pathetic loss to the woebegone Bengals.
I've still never watched that whole game

nor the '98 win over the Broncos, only two games I've missed in 35+ years.

That's amazing! You only missed two games in 35 years?
I remember this game well.

My dad worships Phil Simms and my uncle was on the Hostetler bandwagon throughout that whole QB controversy - they were debating it all year. Right after that game my uncle called and conceded that Phil should be the guy.

Shit, I actually missed the home game vs the Redskins in 2018 too, had to watch on DVR that night. Otherwise, the last season I missed any other games was 1983. It's going to get much harder now with a little dude at home though.

is the game where an RV caught on fire in the parking lot, and at some point in the game, the commentators starting talking about it.
I drove from Boca to Tampa for that game.

I've posted about it before, but I was really disappointed in all the Giants fans who cheered when Hoss was hurt, because they knew that it meant Simms was coming in.

In hindsight I guess they could have been cheering the fact that Simms was warming up on the sidelines. But the cheers came when Hoss was still lying on the ground.

Yeah, I thought it was all about Phil. Hoss helped to bring us a title there only 10 months before
Phil could flat out throw the football

I loved Phil, and had fumed all season about Hoss's inability to finish drives. But I was hoping for a sprained ankle, not a spinal injury.
became a Giants fan in 1980 at age 13.....

...this would be the first time I ever missed, and remember seeing the highlights at halftime of the 4pm games at a party I was attending.

I also remember reading articles about the game, that when Simms came in, he looked "old and rusty", many of the same reasons he lost his job. But he did rally when it counted!

I haven't missed a game

since 1966. I've listened, watched, or attended every game since 1966. It's been a real roller coaster ride with this team.
I went to this game with my brother, sister and her husband

bucs fans were hilarious. I remember a lady sitting in front of me saying over and over again "cmon Vinny (Testerverdae) show em where you live!!"

They were still kinda new to the whole NFL thing...maybe

I have been to a ton of games including playoffs and the Super Bowl....the 98 Broncos game was amazing to see in person.
This is the first regular season game I remember

I was on the sidelines that day. LT was in street clothes, as I recall. I had a media pass, living in Indy at the time. I was so excited but the Giants looked like crap that day. Fun to walk around behind the Giants bench. No fun seeing the loss up close.
A rare touchdown pass, color guy says

12th game of the season, 6th TD pass.

And they were 7-5.
