this is admittedly a weird way to triangulate, but when I find a narrator I like usually they do similar authors/types of books and it's a good way to find new ones.
I'm more of a reader than a listener, but this article made me want to reconsider. He covers many authors/genres, so maybe there's something up your alley. Ballerini - ( New Window )
But the best audiobook I ever heard was World War Z. Top notch production with a huge cast.
Max Brooks the author of that has a new book out about a Bigfoot massacre. Looks like the audiobook has a good cast including Jeff Daniels among others.
if you want a thriller I am Pilgrim. Wish I could go back and start those 20+ hours again. Shoe Dog was also really good.
And if you are into sci fi, Ready Player One was one of the more fun audiobooks i've read (and that's not usually my thing). It's narrated by Wil Wheaton who has acted in a bunch of stuff but really should just be a full time audio book narrator.
Max Brooks the author of that has a new book out about a Bigfoot massacre. Looks like the audiobook has a good cast including Jeff Daniels among others.
DEVOLUTION: A Firsthand Account of the Ranier Sasquatch Massacre.
The audiobook is available in the NYPL system, but I as you can imagine there is a wait list.
I'm #111 on the wait list for the ebook.
I listen to lots of audio books at home and love it
IMO it is way better than TV. The irony is that I pay $100 per month for TV and I seldom watch more more than 4-5 hours a week on average, but membership in the NY Public Library, listening to their audio books, and reading their online books is free.
I recommend NYPL membership, because it has a bigger selection than your local branch library. You must also download their "Overdrive" App. If you download a book and don't like it, it has cost you nothing. You can't beat that!
For me, audio books are a little too engrossing and distracting for listening while driving, but that's me.
But The way of Kings audiobooks are awesome. Fantasy. The Kingkiller chronicles are great although I can’t say I’ve listened to the audio. The black prism as well. All some good fantasy recommendations. The mistborn trilogy.
Adrian McKinty writ s great stuff; and his reader is fantastic.
Any Michael Connelly novel ( Harry Bosch, Micky Haller )
For non-fiction, some good listens are:
In Harm's Way by Doug Stanton. Story of the sinking of the USS Indianapolis.
Midnight in Chernobyl by Adam Higginbotham.
Someone mentioned World War Z. I didn't listen to the audiobook, but it was a great read, nothing like the movie.
.
I just watched seasons 6 & 7 of Bosch on Amazon Prime recently. I have not read any of Connelly's books yet.
A buddy of mine likes him as an author.
I am more of a reader than listener, myself.
I have a large collection of audiobooks. I listen to about 2 or 3 new ones per week.
It's hard to make recommendations unless you know what a person likes, but here are some of my favorites that I think are (mostly) off the mainstream featuring - a good story that is unique or not too derivative, gave me something new, a good narration, works well in audio book format and most importantly, will listen again.
