All I've read/heard from cousins who are Pats fans, Mike Reiss, Tom Curran, etc. is that BB is really high on Stidham & wasn't exactly crying when TB left. Maybe good option if Stidham goes down? Key is that it's very incentive laden.

But he’s only 31 and much larger than most QB’s. I feel like he’s going to be used differently than we’ve seen, New England has nothing invested in him and McDaniels is going use him like hill in New Orleans

They are high on him but Belicheck is not just going to hand him the job. He will have a real competition and go with the most ready to win now. Cam will have a pro bowl year and then sign a huge contract somewhere else, Pats get a 3rd Comp and Stifham is ready to take over.

It's BB's show in NE.

Belichick knows getting Stidham to replicate or even come close to Brady’s efficiency isn’t likely. It’s going to be a new offense and Cam is also going to have more motivation - could be interesting.

Id actually pay a few bucks to see that.

The details of the contract will give us a better idea of how meaningful his addition is. My guess is that he is getting close to league minimum guaranteed ($1M or thereabouts). And if that's the case, then we are talking about Cam getting no serious offers from other teams and so he picks the team where he thinks he has the best shot at winning the starting QB job and having success. Makes sense for him. And for the Patriots it's a case of adding an experienced starting QB to a roster that can use one. I don't see this as a reflection on Belichick's belief in Stidham. It's simply Belichick taking advantage of an opportunity presented to him. I still think it's Stidham's job to lose with no guarantee that Newton will even supplant Hoyer as the primary backup.

If, on the other hand, it turns out that Newton's one year deal include $3M or more in guaranteed money that's a different story. That kind of money, albeit meager for a starting QB with his resume, is an indication that Belichick expects Cam to win the starting job.

any Pro WRs yet? They are going nowhere until that actually have players that can run routes and catch the football.

As to Brady vs Belichick. Belichick got them to the playoffs and Brady won from there. I'd give the 9 Super Bowls 65/35 Belichick/Brady...

risk to this move, outside of the fact they will probably carry 3 qbs. If his shoulder miraculously gets better all of a sudden with time off and rehab, you now have a good QB for peanuts. Worst comes to worst, they can use Cam in a wildcat type role.

Cam gets to audition for his next contract, and the Pats aren't on the hook for much if it doesn't work out. Cam doesn't have to be the 2015 version of himself, he just needs to stay healthy and limit TO's. He'll have a good running game and a very good D behind him.

I think this is spot on. Plus, the way this is being reported is telling. Cam will be "in the mix" to be the starter. This is a typical Pats signing. They will take a flier on a player hoping he pans out, and often times it doesn't. And they move on.

Cam Newton can get anywhere near to what he used to be. I guess we will find out.

I think even without Cam the Pats are the team to beat in that division.

Though QBs with shoulder injuries are not a good mix.

Cam was playing a pretty high level in early 2018 so for a few million this seems like a decent risk to take for Belichick.

I think the Bills more so than the Jets because the Bills are the team that thinks they can make a move this year.

Brady's offensive coordinator is Byron Leftwich. Just marinate on that for a bit.

Patriots would be fascinating to see. He has a completely different skill set than Brady.
