Hmmm...we can only hope. If he improves, at this point, it won't be by that much from his ACL. He was good with AZ that one year but not a probowler.
If he plays (if the Giants play and I believe we will have some kind of a season) he does improve the team.
He strikes me as a good lockerroom guy.

For a guy with double digit sacks and 70+ tackles. And he’s a year farther removed from the ACL. Sign me up.

If he goes somewhere else then the young kids get an opportunity. If he comes back we get a vet not just with something to prove but also a chip on his shoulder.

Mixed felling on Golden, he is some a proven pass rusher. The sack totals from last year are a bit skewed. A number of those sack came in garbage time against some poor teams with poor Olines. The stats are the stats.

I do not think Golden is in the long term plans for the team looking toward next year and beyond. I would like to see more out of the younger guys, XMan and Carter, as mentioned above. Plus, some of the new guys, might have something to offer. Yes. it is a big jump from D2 schools to the pros, but they were drafted, so lets see what we have.

Thinking Golden will have a decent year, hopefully. Hopefully there is a season to some extent. Marcus, signs else where and maybe we gain a comp pick back.

At the very least he should be able to lead the younger guys along

I think it would behoove the Giants to do a long term deal with LW to bring his money down and then a shorter term deal with MG to bring his money up.

We need a pass rush to make the rest of the D successful.

MG was high energy and a motivated MG will mean a lot more success reducing time for opposing QB's to feel comfortable.

I dont think its so high it would preclude the Giants from playing the best players whoever they turn out to be.

I have mixed feelings on Golden. Should he get resigned, he and Fackrell will likely be the starting OLB, which wouldn't be terrible as far as rushing the passer is concerned. However, it would seem to me that finding out whether Carter and/or X-man can play would be more important at this point given the state of the roster as a whole.

And the rookie LBs can do in this defense. Also, see the d-line built to stop the run and force the pass.

Unfortunately, I don’t think they will get to show up this year, and everything will be different next year.

Good catch here by Art. Deadline for Golden to sign elsewhere is July 28 or else his only option is to return to the Giants. Everything remains quiet on the Golden front...

Just a logistical update on Markus Golden/NYG front regarding May 5 tender: the deadline is officially the day that training camp begins.

We initially used July 22, but sounds like it will be July 28, provided the current expectation that all teams will begin training camp then.

I have mix feeling on bring him back. Reality tells me the Giants are not going to be a top team this season. I see a team which has better talent then its had over the last 7 season but that is not saying a lot. I see a very young team that needs playing time to put it all together. Golden had a good season but we can not forget age and the history of injuries. If they should bring him back I'm going to feel good about it. If Golden goes to another team these young players are going to get more snaps which is a good thing

really productive player can't get more than that? Granted he just turned 29 and was coming off a bad injury last season...but showed no signs of it. The position he plays, I thought there'd be no chance we would get him back. This is good news.

the NFL has spoken on his relative value. Giants could use him but they need more than one good player added to this roster.

Initially, I thought the same way. But if I am Golden and I really want to play, the Giants told me that they are interested, set a floor salary level, and practically guaranteed that they will take me back. Golden plays hard and fast...picks up the sacks that run into him---He's willing and available.

The DL gets snubbed for lack of sacks, but Markus isn;t a guy who pushed Pressure to the DL's---rather, he fed off of the attention the redceived and he benefited by their Pocket Flushes.

Nobody sees him as more than a High Motor Guy... a nice player, but not a guy who changes your core.

Maybe a younger guy will emerge and Golden won't get many sacks, but he adds competition and depth at a position that needs it. Its that simple, Golden is not going to stop a young talent emerge, looking at it that way makes the signing a no brainer.

He's not a special player nor will he keep OC's up at night but he's a better pass rusher than anyone else on the roster.

If Golden returns and Fackrell performs as well as he did in 2018 under Graham then the pass rush could be better than expected.

Oshane Ximines is the wildcard at OLB. He was awful versus the run last season but his 4.5 sacks do provide a glimmer of hope that he can develop into a solid pass rush option. Hopefully he added alot of muscle this offseason to improve versus the run.

I am excited to see Carter Coughlin and Cam Brown in the preseason but they are late round rookies who will probably spend their rookie seasons on special teams.

I can't remember ever getting much pressure. He's the slowest edge rusher I've ever seen. Always looks like he's running in ankle-deep mud.

He was productive in both phases. I would have thought he'd earn a bit more than $4M on the open market but I'll be happy to see him back in Blue for that tender price if it sticks.

Ximines doesn't look slow to me but his discipline in run defense was just non existent.

Based on past experience, I'd have to agree Golden is a superior player to Carter and Ximines. However, I do believe both of these young guys do have some upside so I am holding out hope they improve, especially Ximines.
Keeping Golden at $4 million is just a smart move as he is a veteran; will pick up the new defense quickly; and, he is still productive just not a star.

However, I do believe both LT Andrew Thomas and FS X. McDaniel may be starting the season regardless of their lack of practice time. Both played a lot in college and may be "more ready" than most rookies.
