I think that there was some early speculation

that many top players would go into the Supplemental Draft because the college season might get cancelled and the the NFL would do whatever it could to prevent that.
The 2021 NFL draft

will end up being like a super-sized supplemental draft since there will be no college or NFL games between the last draft and that draft....
There have been 46 players taken....

in the history of the supplemental draft. Really nothing to see here.
How many supplemental drafts occurred

In the middle of a pandemic or preceded a cancelled collegiate season?

I think you may be missing the timing element.

In the likelihood that the ncaa seasons are canceled. Or even only certain teams, the supplemental draft may have looked a LOT different this year. Any other year, meh. But this year could have been way different. It’s a shame they’re taking that away from players and teams.
It would have been great for us

Assuming that the rules were the same, we would have had a high pick and shot at a potentially top of the draft player.
How about you would really have no idea....

or at least very little idea who you're dealing with. You have virtually no personal background on any of these kids. No combine to sit and learn about them their personal habits.
And no time to do it because you want to start the season in a little over two months, camp in four weeks.
A reliable estimate is 30 to 50 percent of college football players will be infected with Covid this season. Many already have tested positive. You want to start dealing with the unknown at this point and risk shutting down your whole program? One carrier can do that.
Actually having a season at this point is still iffy at best. But you're far better off playing the cards you're dealt. You don't need to add to the uncertainty.
