covid 19 football

I am not sure how a team can evaluate new players or get ready for the season with just 8 practices with pads on. Maybe they need to have a week or two of practice for first year players and back ups just like pitchers and catchers come to spring training before other players.
training camp schedule - ( New Window )
This whole thing really sucks for the young hopefuls

It's a shitty situation indeed.

I just hope our defense doesn’t continue keeping a six foot distance from the offense for the opponent during Covid football
It is what it is, this pandemic has been a disaster

for many people. “Bubble” players will join the millions without employment, unfortunately. I’m rooting for them to get another shot in 2021, but there are no guarantees.

Agreed, imagine dedicating your entire life for this opportunity, making a 90-man roster, and then getting cut before you even have a chance to show what you can do. I definitely feel for those kids who will never have a chance because of this.
Why not just leave rosters at 90

and bring those extra bodies in intermittently. Or have a separate schedule just for them so that they can at least get practice time in, learn the schemes and have a chance to get evaluated.
I think players will get their chance eventually, even if they're cut

this year. NFL teams want the best players they can find; they'll find them even if it takes awhile. The situation may hurt next year's players more because 1) their senior season may be compromised, and 2) some 2020 players will be back to compete for spots next year.

Spot on!!
We hear stories about how in the old days,
81_Great_Dane : 7/4/2020 2:08 pm : link
rookies sat and learned. The NFL probably needs to go back to something like that. However, there are problems with that.

1) Revenue will be way down due to COVID. No ticket sales, no concession sales, no parking fees, no one using the suites. So the owners probably aren't keen on assuming more salary.

2) The CBA wasn't created for an expanded roster with a lot of young developmental prospects who need time to get up to speed, and I don't think anyone wants to try to negotiate a change or rider for the CBA, on the fly, quickly, amid a moment when the situation with the virus seems to change day to day.

So the best thing for the young guys and the best thing for the product on the field may not be the best thing for the league as a business.

That's training camp

Once it's time for pre-season games that probably won't be played. There could be time for more practices with pads instead of going through those games where most of the regulars don't participate much.

That's what our D has been doing for the last 4 years and the better part of the last decade.
I've decided NOT to watch the NFL
SGMen : 7/5/2020 4:15 pm : link
The league is just, well, NUTS. That is all I want to say. I'm a "Die Hard" Giants fan who bleeds blue since 1986. I got sick of the NFL a few years back and now with CV19 and everything else I'm thinking I should spend my Sunday afternoons perhaps reading or spending time with family more. The NFL used to be a joyful escape from reality and now its all but an escape.

I'm, and I reserve the right to change my mind based on new information, not going to watch. Message boards are filled with anti-NFL right now and honestly I can totally understand why. SMH

If or when you come back, will you make a post explaining why that is the case?

Covid+ players on the field will make everyone forget about CTE!

It's easy too see the coming PR disaster. They are going to monumentally F this up.

I'm a retired 20 year Army combat veteran. That is about all I feel the need to say. Done. Baked. Not worth my time and definitely not my money.
One thing I've learned during CV19: time with friends, family, church, support, charity and the like is precious. Amen.

Since you've given up football, will you still post here?

I just want to prepare myself for the loss in case you decide to leave.

The NFL has a good way to test COVID-19 protocols...
BamaBlue : 7/6/2020 11:07 am : link
the Australian National Rugby League and the Super Rugby league have resumed play. They are playing to very limited and spread-out fans in attendance at the game venues.

This should give the NFL some validation of their planned protocols, and an opportunity to see what changes may be necessary to be able to play with or without attendees.
