BREAKING: #Braves manager Brian Snitker says Freddie Freeman is among four players who have tested positive for COVID-19. Freeman is "not feeling great. It'll be a while til we can get him back" Snit said.
The only reason I brought it up was because I just read an article where Brian Cashman talked about how they wouldn't be releasing the names of anyone who tested positive because it would be a HIPPA violation.
It was pretty detailed and he went on about how most people and reporters could probably put two and two together if a guy tested positive by being put on th IL but it's illegal for him or any team to release that info unless the player ok'd it.
One prominent GM talking about what he can't do and no more than a day or two later a manager doing the opposite. I only questioned how he could do that unless Freeman ok'd it. Nothing more to my post than that.
I do find it interesting though how some are quick to judge or criticize my reasoning to post what I did when there were so many among us killing Schefter when he posted JPP's medical reports.
and basically paid for the info, he’s a fraud. Much different than a manager discussing details about his own player - it’s reasonable to assume he had permission - if he didn’t Freeman would be suing.
Not attacking anyone but the two situations aren’t the same.

Totally agree about Schefter being a fraud. I was just drawing the parallel how no one questioned if he had gotten permission. It was just assumed he didn't. In this case it seems most assume permission was granted.
I do think it's reasonable to assume Freeman's manager did have his permission but I also think it's reasonable to question if he did. That's all I was really getting at and probably only because the Cashman article was so recent and fresh in my mind.
No biggie though, and just wanted to clear up my thinking.
Unless Freeman ok'd his name and condition being released, I don't see how this info is allowed to be made public.
HIPAA only applies to medical professionals. You can make other privacy claims about the Braves GM releasing this info, but HIPAA isn't one of them. Coaches and GMs talk about players' health all the time.
Another guy with over 100 mil in the bank not willing to play for 37 cents on the dollar. Apparently he’s a really good guy that paid 200k to help support minor leaguers this summer too
In this case dodgers probably pleased not to pay his pro rata salary Even at the haircut

Good point and it's true, they do talk about players health all the time.
I thought this situation might be different though after reading Cahman's interview about how he couldn't divulge the info.
excellent podcast on 7/2 wherein he discussed Covid issues and how it may affect the NFL season with two medical experts, an infections diseases doc and an epidemiologist.
Common sense would dictate these things are ok’d.
Snitker says the players gave permission for their names to be released.
How about a “get well Freddie, we’re pulling for you to get through..”
How about a “get well Freddie, we’re pulling for you to get through..”
Not to mention that people still continue to have no clue who the HIPAA covered entities are....
