Be more specific, there are two possible types. One is a pastry that is only made on St Joseph's day in March.

The other is essentially fried dough. I bet your looking for the fried dough.

we'd toss pizza dough into the fryer and then sprinkle with sugar.

I have not had fried dough with powdered sugar in a long time.

I usually go to a county fair in late August or early September and get my RDA of funnel cake, but who knows what will be happening with covid 19.

Recipe for disaster: DO NOT wear dark clothes when eating and walking with these treats.

Lol...I never made zeppolis. I make pizza fritta, which is somewhat similar but not really. My great Aunt Adelena (Lena) used to deep fry them on her wood burning stove....they were unbelievably delicious but I never got the recipe. She's been gone for 30 years or more by now. My grandfather, (her brother) the last of that generation, died last summer at the age of 104. He still lived alone. Sorry I couldn't be of help on this one!
