NFT: Question for you cooks and grillers.... spice blends

TXRabbit : 7/5/2020 9:33 pm
Been seeing mention from friends on Facebook about a spice blend called Dan-O's Original. It comes in a regular and spicy version and promotes itself as an all-purpose seasoning and rub.

Any feedback before I pull the trigger on Amazon?

Any similar rec's?

TIA
I make my own all purpose blend

Won’t be buying anyone else’s, not promoting it either as that’s against site policy

The only all purpose spice blend I have ever used with any regularity is Pappy's Prime Rib blend which I think is pretty darn similar to what my mom used via the component parts.

I like my dishes to have an ethnic or at least thematic spice treatment.

If I grew up with any one thing from the Eastern European Jewish roots of my Grandma that arrived through my mom (a very excellent cook rest her soul) it was sweet paprika, garlic powder, perhaps onion powder, s & p. Pretty similar to the base of Pappy's.

Then I lived a life exploring and making food in depth, so I regularly keep at least one curry powder (basic Indian yellowish red), Chinese 5 spice, Garam Masala, and Ras El Hanut blends at home at all times.

Don't know the one you mentioned.
The Dan-O's looks interesting, but the shipping cost is high on Amazon

I usually make my own seasoning blends, but there are a few commercial ones that I like, but some use anti-caking agents, and MSG. I always have Goya Adobo at home, as I love it in egg dishes, but I'm sure it's loaded with msg & additives, plus it's really high in sodium. I also used to like the Paul Prudhomme Magic Seasonings, although I haven't bought any of them in years.

Last week in another thread I posted about a blend that I have been using a lot of lately at home, is called 8 Second Ride from Cattlemen's Grill. A couple of years ago, I bought a smoker, and when it was delivered there were a few spice blends that were given as a gift with the purchase. I thought they were great. There was a 'California Tri-Tip' an 'Italiano' that really stood out, and I have since bought more.
Just a note, I've posted this link before, because I like the Cattlemen's seasoning, I have no connection to the company, other than I like some of their products.
