Chiefs and QB Patrick Mahomes have reached agreement on a 10-year -- 10-year! -- contract extension that ties him to Kansas City through the 2031 season, league sources tell ESPN.
Jerrah will cave in now. Dak and his agent played this right. Even if he plays on the tag this year and gets tagged next year... his 2021 salary will be over $37M.
Jerry should have signed Dak last year. It just got a lot more expensive.
It's a great system with great talent, fast receivers who can get open.
Just like Seattle, it's a team built on the continuous home run threat that will keep attacking until something cracks.
Both offenses are less effective as standard move the ball types. 2011 Saints type offense was ridiculous because every inch of the field was under constant duress.
But now you've seen the Seahawks without Lynch, and soon we'll see Mahomes without the best offensive supporting cast in the league.
Meanwhile we've seen Garoppolo in the Super Bowl making far more than either of them did in their respective Super Bowl appearances. Wilson since getting paid has been an exciting regular season QB, and a nail biter for the wildcard/divisional rounds since 2015. Hasn't even had a 13 win season either.
I guess Kyle Shanahan must be the GOAT for taking a 2-14 team to the Bowl in 3 years with a shit QB.
Are you calling Mahomes and Russell Wilson system QB’s?
I still need to look at the finer details but if the salary cap increases aren’t on par with what they’ve been as of late then this could be a bad contract sooner than I thought. There has to be security somewhere for the Chiefs, maybe I missed it in the thread, but at face value these numbers seem astronomical.
Jimmy G is an average QB and the 49ers took a big gamble on him and while it’s worked out he’s also come up small in big spots a lot so I wouldn’t beat down the door calling that a blueprint of success. It’s an anomaly more than anything and if there’s a blip to that run game or defense Jimmy G is going to have a hard time carrying them.
Mahomes can carry the chiefs. Wilson has been carrying the Seahawks. Jimmy G isn’t in the same game changing stratosphere as them.
RE: It looks like Chiefs have a good 3 year window
2. In 2021: $22.8 million (base salary of $990,000, roster bonus of $21.7 million, and workout bonus of $100,000 in 2021).
3. In 2022: $29.45 million (base salary of $1.5 million, roster bonus of $27.4 million, and workout bonus of $550,000 in 2022).
4. In 2023: $40.45 million (base salary of $5.5 million, roster bonus of $34.4 million, and workout bonus of $550,000 in 2023).
5. In 2024: $37.95 million (base salary of $2.5 million, roster bonus of $34.9 million, and workout bonus of $550,000 in 2024).
But, again, I'm sure there is more to it than this. The preliminary Patrick Mahomes contract details - ( New Window )
They don't really have a window to get out of this as his roster bonuses have to be guaranteed the year before or he must be cut. So they'd have to take a large cap hit to let him go.
Spotrac doesn't have the dead money right since the bonuses haven't vested yet, but if you check the notes you'll see that if they decide to cut him in the first half of this contract they'd have to take a 40+ million dead cap hit.

In the scenario where Prescott is tagged twice, it's advantage Dallas
Dallas gets to see Prescott two years under McCarthy. If Dallas doesn't win in those two years, the team can move on from Prescott.
It will cost them 68 million over two years instead of over 100 million to give Prescott a long term deal and have to deal with dead money in the future if Prescott is released.
The only way Dallas gets screwed is if they win. But is that really getting screwed? I think we would all sign up for that.

& Super Bowls. They're the next Patriots. People will hate them in a year or two.
Probably. I wonder how many MVPs and championships he wins?
more than 1 more is a long shot.
I don't think so.

I don't see a down side for the team.
