"There will be no Threepeat!"

"There will be no Threepeat!" Summerall delivered this classic line after the #NYGiants beat the Niners 15-13 in SF in the 1990 NFCC game on Matt Bahr's clutch 41 yard game winner at the gun. And for 30 years I've wondered "why does that guy have a parrot?" at 1:06. #GiantsPride

which made it even sweeter. Summerall/Madden is music to my ears. Great, great defense.
Best display of championship football I've ever been privileged

to witness. I mean that as a compliment to both teams, they were both magnificent for 60 minutes.

I was on cloud 9 for hours after Bahr's kick went through the uprights. Pure elation.
there is so much going on here beyond the parrot

The sheer joy on the field.

- The Giant fan/field guy under the goal post who goes nuts as soon as it's good
- When you have the phrase "at the gun", there literally is the old referee gun shot to end the game. You can hear it in the clip. They did away with that later.
- Joe Montana being slowly helped off the field
- Bahr calmly turning around to celebrate with Hoss, who rolls over, and then Bahr is squashed by LT and Brian Williams
- And listen to the crowd noise. It's quiet except for a group of Giants fans that you can hear throughout.
Amazing how many truly legendary games

Bill Belichick has been a part of. What a ridiculous football life.
Never heard a crowd go from deafening to silent that quickly

since that day. You could hear a pin drop after Bahr made the kick.

Game 6 NLCS in 2006. Beltran looked at strike three. Mayhem to silence in an instant. Best comparison I could think of.

I was at the game. Best sporting event I ever had the privilege to attend. After Craig fumbled the stadium went quiet and stayed that way. When OJ Anderson got the last first down I stood and cheered. The entire section quietly gave me dirty looks.
I remember the game very well
RobCrossRiver56 : 7/7/2020 11:42 am : link
My favorite memory was Pat Summerall kept repeating in the second half how the Giants just can't get into the end zone and it's going to cost them.
Then when Barr makes the kick he says, maybe the Giants won't need to get into the end zone.

Big smile...
football porn was very funny

I was living still in NJ in 1991, for some reason my wife and I watched that game with on of her co-workers whom I did not like cus he would hit on my wife, but he was ultimately harmless cus he had no shot with her.
He was a big Giants fan though at least.
Anyway when Bahr connected me and this guy run across the room and hugged and ended up falling on the floor in joy.
Great game, odd memory...especially since he didn't much like me either.
Bought the 10 greatest NYG games a few years back and watch that one from time to time.
Love that 90 team
Montana staggering off the field is great

I was so lucky to grow up in this era. Lived and died with every game. Just awesome.

Some big games take awhile to catch they're stride
Stu11 : 7/7/2020 12:16 pm : link
While both teams feel eachother out. Not that one. That was nervous intense great football action from the opening kickoff till that kick just hung inside the left upright to end it. No lull at all. Unlike these video game 34-30 games today, literally every play of that game could have meant the game. In fact you could say the same for the regular season game between the 2 that year too. 120 minutes of some of the most intense football you'll ever see.
best line ever by Summerall. He's the greatest

Best game I ever saw.
When Bahr first hit the ball
JimInKgnNY : 7/7/2020 2:24 pm : link
my heart sank because it looked like it was going wide left. Then it straightened out and stayed true.
This game and the Packer championship game from January 2008 are probably the 2 most stressful Giant games I've ever watched.
And Summerall reporting on
johnnyb : 7/7/2020 3:00 pm : link
Montana after the Leonard Marshall hit- "report from the bench is it hurts everywhere". One of the best football games I ever saw.

Yes, so true. 120 minutes of physical brutality. 20-18 combined score. you'll never see that kind of football again unfortunately.

Best duo ever in sports broadcasting history. I remember my old man telling me when I was young, 'If Summerall & Madden are calling a Giants game, you know it's a big game.'
Never gets old...such beautiful memories...

Thanks for posting Eric...

Crazy when you think about it that 3 out the 5 Giant SB appearances were decided my a game ending winning FG in the NFCC game...
One of the greatest plays in GIANTS history!

This game and XXV mean so much to me
Greg from LI : 7/8/2020 2:34 pm : link
For one thing, because they were both incredible games where both teams played so well. For another, 1990-91 was a rotten year. Both of my grandmothers died in a 6 month period. Freshman year sucked, I got the worst grades of my scholastic career. I wasn't getting along with my dad at all. And yet, for a few hours those two weekends, the Giants brought me and dad together in joy. I will always remember jumping up and down with him in our old living room, screaming our heads off when Bahr's kick was good....and then again the next week when Norwood's kick wasn't. All the sadness, all the anger melted away, if only for those few hours

That's what it's all about. The memories and comraderie. No matter how much my dad or my brother and I could be at odds or just butting heads because that's what kids do grwoing up, we could always talk about the Giants and look forward to watching the games together. Rangers and Yankees as well. And even the Knicks when I was really young.
Top 10 moment
bluetothegrave : 7/10/2020 11:34 pm : link
There are many thank god. We suffer with every defeat so to have really 10 or more insane all time moments makes it so sweet. My blood has been blue from birth and will be to the grave. 5 fgs ! LT and Erik Howard getting us the ball back one more time and cool as ice Matt bahr just fucking money.

I think being a Giant fan shaped my life in an extremely positive way and it’s mainly due to moments like this. A tear welled up watching my hero’s rush the field again like I did back then, as us Giant fans had the best week ever after that insane breathtaking well deserved win against an absolute juggernaut.

Wins like this are forever.
