SCOOP-Baseball sources tell
@FoxBusiness
hedge fund billionaire Steve Cohen & the Wilpons have patches up their differences and have been discussing Cohen’s purchase of
@Mets
yet another indication that (as I reported) Cohen is the leading contender for the team story developing
Did I miss out on the fun in another thread?
I'm no Mets fan/baseball fan in general, but I have relatives in Jersey/Long Island who are & they hate the Wilpons.
Now they've seen which way the wind is blowing ie leaving several hundred million dollars on the table with Cohen out of the bidding. Gee what a shock the slimeballs suddenly want to mend fences and be friends again.

OMG, You've got me rolling dude. I've gotta go back and watch that series again, lmfao!
Good bye to the Wilpons and Brodie can't come fast enough.

this. I'm surprised that Cohen didn't come back with the same $2.6 billion bid but with SNY included. The world has changed drastically since last time, and the Wall street reporter from the NY post was on FAN yesterday, said the Mets baseball operation was next to last in profit. Only the Marlins are worse, and theMets are awash in debt.
Otherwise could someone explain how the Mets could be second worst in baseball as that person claims? Honest question. I mean They were solid last year, fans went to the games, they play in NY. We are to believe that a team like say the Pirates made more money?

It's the debt burden on the team and the ballpark. The CitiField bonds were downgraded to junk recently
PS I've also heard that MLB would prefer a group other than the A-Rod group, that the A-Rod group still has $$ questions and that the expectation is that group would be lesser spenders (at least early on) vs. someone like say Cohen.
For some unknown reason Francesa calls him Stevie Cohen. It's really odd because I've never seen that said or printed anywhere else.

old habit I think. Mike and the Mad Dog's original producer was Steve Cohen, and they always called him Stevie.

This makes perfect sense. Thanks Victor. I found it so weird given "Stevie" isn't listed in a single article I've ever read about Cohen.

Look, I've known Stevie since he was in dipahs, ok? Me and dog were at the garden in '94 and he was asking me what I thought about Microsoft during halftime of Knicks/Rockets. Let me tell you something if he wants da team he's getting the team. End of story. You know I love him but sorry A-Rod. Back afta this.

BREAKING: As reported hedge fund billionaire Steve Cohen & the Wilpons have been in direct discussions about Cohen's purchase of @Mets, per sources. One described tomorrows "first round" bid process this way: "Everybody bids, the Wilpons show them to Stevie & ask for $200k more"
more likely to Cohen

Don't know for sure, but:
1. High debt from stadium
2. Higher payroll than most
Pirates may have been more profitable, but I doubt their revenue was even in the same ballpark (no pun intended).
With all the leaks from the Wilpons the past few days, I just assumed it was them.
Cohen has been relatively quiet, but maybe he (and his PR team) think now is the time to pounce.

Sounds like acknowledgement that the bids will all be substantially less than what Cohen was (reportedly) offering last winter.
"I'd love to give you $2 billion for the Mets, but I'm not paying you that for part you set up to lose money while you keep the part you set up to turn a profit, and I'm not bailing you out with that money while you continue to run the team. If you want to sell, then sell for real."

as they should be. and as I said in another thread, the Wilpons went to the George Costanza School of negotiating.
Positional flexibility is something the Mets should do more of. I agree that Cespedes is really unlikely to play 1B, but i hope the organization makes it a mandate to work on positional flexibility for players.
Besides, you never know if Alonso and Mcneil both come down with COVID and are out for a month and Cespedes can't run enough to play OF. We've seen 4-6 starting players quickly go down with injuries in normal yeras/

Really fail to see the value of Cespedes getting reps at 1b. In what scenario would he play there? JDD, Dom both with actual 1b experience.

Alonso, JDD, Dom Smith, Cano, Lowrie all of experience at 1b at the MLB level. If the Mets land on 1b #5 or 6 then the season likely never comes to completion. 60 games, needing at BEST your 4th 1b (Alonso, Dom, JDD....) seems pretty ridiculous and that's before you even get to someone like Cano or Lowrie.

We’ve added Ryley Gilliam to our player pool.
Jacob Rhame was claimed off waivers by Los Angeles (AL).
Cespedes is likely a better hitter than Adams, Lowrie, Cano, Smith.

forgot Matt Adams as well. Apparently Cespedes took it upon himself to take some reps at 1b and not from the team.

The NL has a DH now. In what scenario would Cespedes at 1b make more sense than him at DH? It would have to be such a comedy of errors that it's unfathomable. That doesn't even include Melky whom the team said will get some 1b reps.

#Mets 2017 relief trade acquistions:
- Gerson Bautista: Seattle
- Jamie Callahan: FA
- Stephen Nogosek: Outrighted
- Ryder Ryan: Double-A
- Eric Hanhold: Baltimore
- Jacob Rhame: LA Angels
It's all ryding on Ryder.
Tbh, I'm not even particularly interested in the season, but I'm interested in next season and where the franchise goes. I'm not a lunatic in the "I don't care if they win, I just want the Wilpons gone" group, but I do think they need them to be gone to be a consistent, solid franchise.
Reads like he's repeating what he's read.
