Daniel Wallach @WALLACHLEGAL · 19h NEW: Quinton Dunbar adds 2nd lawyer to criminal defense team handling armed robbery case in FL. This comes several weeks after his other lawyer claimed that he had five witness affidavits saying that Dunbar was not involved. Hiring new lawyer suggests dismissal not imminent. |
What was telling, early on, was the Miami lawyer saying at Baker's bail hearing that he would withhold certain witness statements for "future proceedings", or some such. He had a better handle on what was likely to come.

Especially considering Dunbar was more accomplice than ringleader (that being Baker) when the news first broke. Just speculation on my part, but if Dunbar is guilty of something than Baker is likely guilty of something even worse. Of course that may not necessarily be true as this poorly written crime drama continues to be re-written.
I honestly believed this would be "dropped" in a deal before camp where Baker takes a mis-demeanor and a 4 game NFL suspension and hopefully learn something that will drive him UP the rest of his life.
Now I'm stepping back and just praying he isn't guilty of stupidity beyond measure.
Because these two are NFL players I always think "the prosecutors can't just be lenient...too many eyes...this is profile...thinking of my career" cause that is often how life rolls now I just don't know.
Praying...
May 18, 2020: "A lawyer for New York Giants cornerback DeAndre Baker is confident the four counts of armed robbery with a firearm and four counts of aggravated assault against his client will be thrown out. 'This case is going to be dismissed,' he told Paul Schwartz of the New York Post on Monday. 'One day soon, this case is gonna be dismissed.'"
June 3, 2020: "Speaking to SNY's Ralph Vacchiano, Patrick G. Patel said he thinks 'we've got the case won' and expects it to be dismissed as soon as the end of this week."
June 23, 2020: "DeAndre Baker’s representation remains steadfast and confident the Giants cornerback will be cleared of any wrongdoing and the serious criminal charges against him will be dismissed. 'We have at least two witnesses that will testify as to Baker’s innocence,' Patrick Patel reiterated to The Post on Tuesday."
All we really know is that Baker failed to turn himself in on an arrest warrant for over two days and then amazingly turns up with a bunch of alleged affidavits exhonerating him. Go figure.
You win the thread!
"Ah, ladies and gentlemen of the ju-ju-ju-ju....uhhhhh, ju-ju-ju-ju-RAY, uhhhhhhh...."
To be precise, we've been hearing that from only one of Baker's attorneys: Patrick Patel, his attorney in New Jersey, who does not have responsibility for this case, which is in Florida.
The Florida attorney who does have responsibility for the case, Bradford Cohen, has been very circumspect in his comments.
In the almost two months since the initial court hearing, I believe the only comment Cohen has made for publication was a short quote in the TMZ article a couple of weeks ago. And that was to the effect that he, Cohen, continues to believe in Baker's innocence.
Cohen has not predicted the outcome of the case or the timing of that outcome. When an article or headline does claim a prediction from Baker's attorneys, I'd pay attention to the particular source.

I don't know that Baker was the ringleader. It was Dunbar that was arrested first, no? And that was quite a bit before Baker was arrested. Maybe I'm mis-remembering the time line here.
But the fact remains...something is rotten in Denamrk.
Just because the prosecutors haven't yet conversed that it's a throw away case, nor the Judge deciding that up till now, doesn't mean it's NOT a "throw away" case.
Our criminal justice system is riddled with flaws, and it's not THAT difficult to manipulate police and prosecutors with false accusations.
Just sayin'...
Also conceded..:)

Their warrants were issued simultaneously. Dunbar was arrested first because he surrendered first. Baker simply waited longer before turning himself in; I don't know how that can be interpreted as any sort of indicator of leadership in the alleged actions.

I agree. But Baker's lawyer was saying that he expects Baker to be cleared within a week or two along time ago, and that hasn't happened. That's what I was referring to.
What's more Baker is likely to have violated the NFL's policies and has put his entire contract at risk.
I believe he will be placed on one of the commissioner's lists (as will Rosas).

So here it is and NOTHING of substance has come out....YET.
So we sit & wait....
