NFL Tight Ends Ranked by Execs, Coaches, Scouts

Breeze_94 : 7/8/2020 11:25 pm
Engram comes in at #7, behind Kittle, Kelce, Ertz, Gronk, Waller, and Andrews. That sounds about right, although I think he has the talent to surpass Andrews and Waller if healthy.

Also surprising to me was the fact that someone had Engram ranked #1.

Think about this...That is the opinion of someone who is employed by an NFL organization and at the very least offering input into player personnel decisions, if not making the decisions. How can someone in their right mind think Engram is better than Kittle or Kelce?

That last line is funny. There’s one poster who’s gonna get hot about that assertion.
A healthy Engram is a dangerous wespon

Problem is finding a healthy Engram

His best attribute is his ability to exploit the deep seam. Unfortunately we can't pass block long enough to exploit that either

Exactly: if he could only stay healthy AND if the OL could just be a shade enough better where these seam routes turn into easy big gain for Jones.
Engram

Has never been top ten TE in the NFL his best year was his rookie year and since then it’s what happened to that potential? He misses to much time on the field, he does not dominate from game to game, terrible blocker, is he really a TE, we still don’t know what his strengths are. He has the look of a gazelle 4.42 but that speed does not show up on the field enough. Poor some oil on the fire Shockey ran like maybe 4.58 on a great day but he was open all day. Engram is in the same boat as many Giant players today gifted physically but ultimately those skills are not present or consistently displayed on the field of play. He’s going to be 26 this year another loosing year we should be seeing him in his prime but what can we really expect from him?

are able to consistently run the ball it is hard to see what you have in your weapons. Better down and distance and the threat of pass/run will show Engram's skill more imo......if he is on the field.

Always looked like: WR screen, slot WR drag route, pick play, and Gronk up the seam.
I disagree wildly with this.

Engram just isn't my type of TE. I'm with Dragon - I do not consider him a TE at all. He is one of the better H-backs in the league when healthy, but since health is a big part of the equation, you can't even say that.

In actuality, he's a coach/GM-killer. A 2nd round talent that should never have been picked in the 1st over guys like Ramczyk, who would've been a huge help to our still-unsolved RT position. And that was an obvious move, not 20/20 hindsight.

Give me a big bruiser TE who can catch a pass when he's wide open. That's a TE. Bavaro and Shockey are the prototypes.

Could be a real talent in a productive Offense

Is not developing his blocking at all and is not available consistently enough yet.

Ranked #7 is fairly generous and gives him the benefit of doubt on receiving/running talent.
I don’t agree with Engram’s ranking
Ben in Tampa : 7/9/2020 8:51 am : link
I don’t remember a time he materially impacted a game in any way.

His physical gifts are obvious, but has there ever been a game Engram has taken over? A game he “won” for the Giants? He spends more time in the trainer’s room than the field.

That’s a very generous ranking.
Weird list. Ask yourself, would you rather have Evan Engram
sb from NYT Forum : 7/9/2020 8:51 am : link
...or Austin Hooper?
After reading the blurb, I have a feeling Engram’s first-place vote...
Big Blue Blogger : 7/9/2020 9:05 am : link
...was from Jason Garrett. Who else (at a senior level, anyway) would base their vote on the Cowboys’ game plan against the Giants? Marinelli?

its no
Coincidence that once Kaden Smith got some burn that the run game got much better and Smith was making as much of an impact receiving as Engram without having his speed. He had 31 catches for 268 and 3TDs in 6 games as a starter. His blocking was a revelation for the offensive line and Saquon as well.

Engram is better in theory
Osi Osi Osi OyOyOy : 7/9/2020 10:26 am : link
than on the field. His speed is certainly impressive and he's had some big games, but he's just so inconsistent and incomplete as a player. Does he have the talent to be a legit Pro Bowl TE in a season where he puts it all together? I think so. But I've personally never been sold on Engram.
Guess that means

The ones here not questioning the giants decision to keep engram aren’t total idiots.

You don’t remember one game where he played very well? Try harder.

Agreed: RE: Kaden Smith.

I'd take Smith over Engram in a NY Minute. Again - just not my type of "Tight End". Especially for the NY Giants.
Talented kid.
SFGFNCGiantsFan : 7/9/2020 11:41 am : link
But needs to stay healthy.

I really liked K. Smith late last year. He can definitely block and I would NOT be shocked if he ended up as our best blocking TE.
Engram just needs to stay healthy and to do damage in the passing game. He'll be used "as needed" and appropriately to attack team weaknesses. I see Smith catch a lot of those 6 to 8 yard seem lobs as he'll be open.
I think we are solid at TE but a healthy, motivated Engram makes us a dangerous offense due to his superb speed.

That's literally not close to what the poster said.
