Super XXI: Giants Take the lead for good... Parcells pissed

Eric from BBI : Admin : 7/9/2020 1:00 pm
So much good stuff here...

BigBlueVCR @BigBlueVCR
Perhaps the most memorable moment of Super Bowl XXI in 1986 was @PhilSimmsQB to McConkey on the flea flicker. McConkey didn't score but Morris did & #NYGiants fans felt a win coming. Shout outs- Johnny Parker's celebration & Parcells yelling at @PepJ52 and Rouson. #GiantsPride

and memories.... and I recall being glad Parcells was yelling afterwards not to let up...as I was screaming at the TV and jumping up and down.
What a memory

What a game to erase the ghost of over 30 years of futility. How great was that game? Champagne flowed until the wee hours of the next morn....
I was at the game.

That play was in the far end zone. My memories of that day are a bit of a blur but I do remember the place exploding after that TD.

It was just too easy. The OL dominated. We don't see that much anymore.
Madden and Summerall were, IMO, the best nfl broadcasters ever.

It's great watching these plays. Thanks Eric.
McConkey the over-achiever was pissed to not score

on the flea-flicker. I saw him at the hotel after the game in the elevator and I said "Congratulations Phil on your superbowl tocuhdown."
He looked up at me and said "I wanted two."
Love me some Johnny Parker...

...he'd probably be a great interview if someone could get a hold of him.

Funny, I was loving it when that happened with Parcells.....but looking back it even looks a tad bit that Parcells can't even fake it....he knew we had it! Look at his face after Morris scored! LOL

I found an interview with him. Haven't listened yet, but I will.

Classic Parcells. Don't let your guard down, the game is FAR from over................
Morris is tackled for a loss...

...if Mo Carthon doesn't peek inside and take out Ricky Hunley.
McConkey gets his TD...

@BigBlueVCR
All Phil McConkey wanted was a Super Bowl TD. He almost got it but was tripped up a yard short by former #NYGiants CB Mark Haynes. In the 4th quarter @PhilSimmsQB looked to hit Bavaro for his 2nd TD, but he tipped it and McConkey grabbed it for a TD & a 33-10 lead #GiantsPride

Now that was an easy game to watch

Nothing like the other three SB wins. Thanks for the memory.
Parcells being mad about premature celebration is so *him.*

I'm not going to go to the "the old days" canard, and he didn't seem to have much trouble adapting to more recent NFL players, but I kind of liked it better before everybody was expected to have a choreographed, creative TD celebration any time they score. Sometimes a big celebration is right, sometimes it's wrong. Gotta know when to do what.
I felt bad for Mark Haynes during that game

He was an excellent corner for us from 1980 through 1984.
Too bad we couldn't sign him before 1985 season.

Imagine that D with Haynes and Mark Collins at CB? Too bad Agent Orange (Howard Slusher) directed him out of town.
Really

Not happy losing Haynes, he was the best cornerback the Giants had since 1965, better then Collins, better then Sehorn, better then Webster, better then Sparks. Never gets mentioned because he left. He had a down year in 1985, then left, pro bowl 82-84, all pro 82 and 84.
Played
PaulN : 7/10/2020 1:07 pm : link
LCB, as did Collins.
