Knicks have a surplus of draft picks to move up, most teams ahead of them are set at point guard, the Ball family wants to make this happen, and he's not a Zion-level prospect who teams covet. Hope it happens.
of guys that wanted NY out of college....or had NY on their list of preferred trade destinations. Until it actually happens, it's all hot air.
I think you are way underestimating the circus around the Ball family. I think the talent gap is going to be close enough that teams absolutely would not want to risk drafting him if the Knicks would be his preference.
Having a Ball on your team is an enormous distraction if they land where they want. I would say generally that a player wanting to be somewhere is a fairly worthless sentiment. With the exception being what looks like the biggest familial distraction I've witnessed in sports.
and seems like a mature young man. I suspect LaMelo will do the same. To my knowledge, neither has a rep of being a jerk. If you don't want to draft LaMelo because of his warts, I get it - but I think LaVar's 15 minutes of fame are up.
I'm more concerned about the shooting issues, with RJ and Mitch already poor in that area, but no one on the roster has established himself as a certain part of the foundation. I suspect there are a lot of trades in our future.
way overhyped and comes with the significant baggage of his Dad.
The people who are calling him the best PG in the draft really should look at the competition he's been playing against and his shooting has been abysmal. He shot 28% in the Lithuanian League!!
so I’m not sure anyone is overhyped. Like a lot of other prospects in this year’s class, LaMelo only played a few games (12), so it’s hard to go crazy over the stats, though his shooting needs to improve. Lonzo didn’t shoot or defend coming into the NBA, but has improved in both areas. You’d be banking on the same thing with Melo.
I may be in the minority here, but I couldn’t care less about LaVar. No one takes him seriously anymore. Let him yap.
is RJ’s two best stretches came in the first half when Marcus Morris missed a few games due to injury, and post-All Star Break after Morris had been traded. Knicks didn’t do RJ any favors by making him stand and watch Morris and Randle and deal with garbage point guards.
He has his warts but flashed plenty even as a rookie. His game is also particularly harmed by the lack of floor spacing and a viable PG. He seems like a kid with a good head on his shoulders and given how competitive he is and his reputation as a hard worker, I think he'll be a really good pro in due time. How good will depend on his outside shooting.
All the top prospects in this draft have warts or question marks but Ball does some things at an elite level already. It's personal preference but I would rather that than someone who doesn't but might be more well-rounded right now especially given his age. He's by no means a good shooter but he had a knack for taking longggg 3's (why I have no idea) which obviously harmed his shooting %'s.

make up as this year. Not too surprising. It makes sense to have a handful of vets on the roster. Your not going to have a roster of all 22 year olds. I have no issue with vets, the issue ill have is when the 35 year old center we sign is playing 30 minutes a game and Mitch is playing 20.

No. It’s more like:
“LaVaaa, what do ya think of Glabba Torres? Pretty good hittah, right?”
He is the best pure point guard in the draft hands down.

The Knicks are interviewing Mike Woodson today for their coaching position, according to sources.

Get a player plus 2021 draft capital
17.2 - 4.5 - 3.1 - 1 45%, 33%, 62%
Feel like this isn't being talked about enough
Shooting percentages still need work, but as a 20 year old there's so much there to work with.

I was in favor of that exact scenario during the season. Not sure he’d be my first choice, but a wing that can knock down threes is a desperate need.
Id also prefer the point to be abke to run the offense..

Hey, stop trying to insert things like that into a Knicks thread
