Investigators have Instagram messages and video evidence of a payoff cover-up in the Baker and Dunbar case.

There's your facts. He's an asshole.
Next man up!
Baker is done. Good riddance. I had such high hopes for this kid when we drafted him.
Tons of OT's on the board and a lot of CB's
Dumb & dumber. Now I know why coaches hate when these guys are on their own in the offseason.
Let’s just see how it plays out. IF this is legit then yes he’s probably “done” but again, let’s see.

Baker was a better player. Not something I will lose sleep over. Some people are just morons despite being the upper 1% athletically.
I’m not saying the dude is not guilty of anything but can we just fucking wait until there’s an actual ruling, actual news, or actual anything from someone of importance other than a hack beat writer?

matter what the facts eventually reveal. So if the mob says fuck me, i am fine with it.
As was the initial incident and charge. Talk to me when something actually happens.
cut him and the drunk POS kicker at the same time please
There were quite a few BBI'ers who did suggest possible payoffs... kudos to those who suggested that scenario.
Again, we have to see what is and what isn't true, but this doesn't look good at all.
Yes but probably in a rush to be the first one to get this out publicly.
We can pile on Pat Leonard. He’s an ambulance chaser.
What was wrong with that perspective?
Nope, we are still gonna “wait for the facts.”
Someone felt they were being cheated and pulled back their money.
This led to an armed robbery.
The cops were called.
There was a warrant issued for Dunbar and Baker.
During that time "Coach" got all parties to agree to agree to a payoff. Change your statement and receive money.
The transactions took place at the lawyer's office building (was this Dunbar's lawyer?)
Someone left a cell phone that was obtained by the cops.
Coach posted on Instagram he paid off these people to change their statements.
This phenomenon is so odd. I’ve got no problem getting rid of him if all this is true. But the victory lap says a lot more about you guys than it does about me. If he did it he’s a piece of shit, what more would you like?
So, congrats that Baker robbing someone happened?

I am so F'ing confused.
A warrant obtained by Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News cites evidence, including video footage and direct messages, that allegedly show witness Dominic Johnson oversaw payoffs of the four alleged victims at the office of Dunbar’s attorney, Michael Grieco.
Baker and Dunbar stand accused of taking cash and expensive jewelry at gunpoint from other attendees at a May 13 house party in Miramar, Florida.
Johnson, the witness referred to as “Coach” in the original arrest warrant, allegedly wrote a series of incriminating direct messages on his Instagram account, @powerballnick_305, on May 16, per Leonard. Johnson corroborates “a robbery had occurred and those who were charged were the participants,” the warrant summarizes.
The four victims said they were paid a total of $55,000 to recant their sworn initial statements against Dunbar. Alleged direct messages between Baker and Johnson on Instagram implicate Baker in the payoff, Miramar police detective Mark Moretti revealed in the latest warrant.
“Johnson is telling Baker to come to Dunbar Lawyer’s office,” Moretti writes, via Leonard. “Baker replied, ‘Yo I’m in the city now getting cash how much to bring ?? I’m tryna get there too u ASAP.’”
“There appears to be several phone calls between Baker and Johnson,” the warrant continues. “Johnson appears to be nervous by telling Baker, ‘Yooooo these people finna leave.’”
CCTV video evidence shows Grieco, Johnson, an unknown individual and the four alleged victims at the attorney’s office on May 15 appearing to make the payoff, according to Leonard.
“On 5/15/20, I was contacted by Michael Grieco, attorney for Dunbar, stating the victims and witness have recanted their sworn/recorded statements against Dunbar,” the warrant reads. “However, I also want the court to be aware that all five individuals have been threatened and have expressed extreme concern to me regarding their safety. One of the individual(s) was forced to move out of his apartment. The other was receiving texted messages containing pictures of his passport, the same passport that was stolen during the robbery.”
Baker, 22, and Dunbar, 27, were taken into custody May 16 and spent the night in the Broward County Jail before being released on $200,000 and $100,000 bond, respectively.
Baker pleaded not guilty to four counts of armed robbery with a firearm and four counts of aggravated assault with a firearm, and Dunbar has pleaded not guilty to four counts of armed robbery with a firearm.

I don't understand these people. Like see it's completely fine to jump on accusations because I was right! It really does say a lot about these people.
Are you that fucking dense??
Are you really saying people shouldn't wait for facts? No wonder there is such a shitstorm going on with social media - takes like this.

Everything reported in the NYDN story is about events that happened at the office of Dunbar's attorney, Michael Grieco.
So Cohen's assertion that "we" (Cohen's office) did not present affidavits from the witnesses in question can be true.
Problem for Bakers seems to be that there are messages between the arranger of the payoff, Mr. Johnson, and Baker in which Baker appears to be agreeing to supply money to help with the payoff.
It may be true that the paid off witnesses primarily changed their story with respect to Dunbar rather than Baker, which would make the other part of Cohen's statement technically true.
But not getting his money's worth, so to speak, isn't going to help Baker much if the evidence stands up that he was in on the payoff.
And, as a BTW, now we know why Dunbar brought in a different attorney this week to represent him.

There are sworn statements and multiple search warrants involved. It doesn’t look good at all.
I really hope the rubber meets the road soon. Outside of Barkley's first year, all we have seen from Dave Gettleman's draft picks is potential. The drafting needs to start resulting in wins soon. Unfortunately, there are circumstances beyond normal football this year.

You are being ingenious. Outside of Barkley? DJ looked great for a rookie QB. Lawrence was awesome as a rookie. Darius Slayton proved he has a bright future. Connelly was a beast when healthy. Hernandez had a solid rookie year but took a step back as a sophomore. There has been a hell of a lot more tham potential.

I’m a Georgia fan and I was excited that they drafted him. But if this was a cowboys/eagles/skins player the lynch mob would have been out in full force the second the news of the robbery broke. But there is a contingent of people on this site (for the record I don’t lump you in said contingent) that always want to give Mara/the Giants/Giants players the benefit of the doubt.

SFG so now you are “confused?” I thought Baker was done and “good riddance” - that’s what you said earlier in the thread.
This is why people just need to relax and let this play out. Again call me crazy but I wouldn’t put my opinion of Baker on the line based on a horribly written and click bait article written by Pat Leonard - who is literally the equivalent of a tabloid writer.
Now, Baker could be really, really, really, really stupid. But if he’s only just a little stupid, he probably doesn’t send a DM to someone saying hey man where can I get you this shitload of cash I’m about to pay you off for, when you’ve been charged with a felony. Again....could be true. But we have a right to just wait until this comes to a conclusion. Yes - we are going to wait for the “facts” to come out which is literally what you’re supposed to do regarding “investigations” and “the law.” Jesus Christ it shouldn’t be this hard.
The article is based on a WARRANT from the police department. He's not getting this from sources, he directly obtained the search warrant.
The DM's are from Johnson, not Baker.
And yes, Pat Leonard is an absolute hack. He couldn’t care less about the facts of the case, his job is to get clicks.
And yes, Pat Leonard is an absolute hack. He couldn’t care less about the facts of the case, his job is to get clicks.
The article is based on a fucking search warrant. Not loosely based claims from sources.
If you read the entire article you would know this. Just admit you read Pat Leonard and stopped there. The Daily News is awful, but they legally obtained the search warrant. Not even Leonard is dumb enough to make up things in an article based on a search warrant
Ok. How is what the search warrant actually says (written by the cop) a "claim". Is the cop going to put that in the warrant without having the proof?
Calling this a tabloid piece is asinine. It may be all over the place, but it's entirely based on the search warrant that was legally obtained. So now apparently police search warrants are tabloid pieces according to you.
Leonard didn't have "sources" here. He had the fucking search warrant from the police and the entire article is baed on that, nothing else.
It appears they want further access to data in the accused icloud storage and perhaps other sources to strengthen their case.
If the author of the article was changed to adam schefter and the exact same article was written you wouldn't say something so dumb.
This is not an opinion article. It's entirely based on a search warrant that the daily news obtained.
So basically you believe that police department is nothing but a tabloid machine in their search warrants.
Agreed. I am an attorney. I do not now nor have I ever practiced criminal law, but that is my interpretation.
The whole “wait for the facts” segment always seemed to be ignoring the facts from the start.

So what, that’s what fans do. But the result would be the same - if the player was innocent than no harm no foul in calling him a POS, if he’s guilty then we can all rejoice and laugh at them.
Some people really want Baker to be guilty to justify their outrageous behavior when it was initially reported. That’s far worse than giving the organization the benefit of the doubt (usually my stance). This isn’t court but isn’t it reasonable to want to know what happened before making final judgements on the whole ordeal?
Now to the football side of this Next Man Up Mr. Baker appears to headed to the big house with a number on his back. What are the cap impact when he given his walking papers how much will the Giants still contractually be responsible for.
Sorry but you have shit for brains and know nothing and are certainly not a criminal defense attorney.
"Warrants" can be and are (sometimes at least) written by DA's or ADAs and can be full of shit all in an of themselves, based on half truths or partial truths or misleading pieced together facts that are damn close to outright lies.
Warrants serve several possible functions: among those is the acquisition of evidence and/or the arrest of alleged criminal parties - but for sure a "Warrant" is NOT PROOF OF ANYTHING.
Does it look very bad for Baker? Sure. But if you think "Warrants" issued by ANYONE in the Law Enforcement or Criminal Justice System are bound to be akin to Biblical Truths....
LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL
This shit I know for fucking sure, from experience.

😂😂
Really?
Haha, was thinking the same thing.
It’s the MO of some of the regulars that only show up on threads like this, they hate certain picks so when something bad happens to said player, or it doesn’t work out for X reason, we get these lovely posts that defy logic and reason.
Maybe Baker did it, and if so I hope he’s found guilty of it and we cut him. But until then I’m going to not smash my desk demanding justice, screaming at posters on the internet for not hating Baker along side of me.

Yeah. Everybody can jump to conclusions, myself included, on what it actually means and what transpired but it was a good job obtaining it even if the article wasn't written well. Is this not news? Is this not a story?
Bradford Cohen's statement says nothing about a "smoke out" or "set up". Cohen is very careful with his words and this is his case, not Patrick Patel's.
Advising a client to engage in facially criminal conduct without the unambiguous participation of law enforcement in the "sting" would be a reckless act; no chance Cohen would do that.
Also, if things went down the way Patel claims and the case went to trial, who would have to get on the witness stand and testify to the "smoke out"? The attorneys, themselves?
Testifying means being under oath, under penalty of perjury. As HomerJ45 points out in other thread, attorneys don't put themselves in that position, certainly not an attorney as sensible as Cohen.
Cohen says he reported extortion against Baker and that I believe. But the question is: when, exactly, did Cohen find out that Baker had been approached, and what did Baker say/message/do before Cohen could get control of the situation?
Anakin is a trusted and reliable poster. You shouldn't out him like that.
Lol, j/k
People who did not condemn Baker when this was first reported are ruining BBI, the internet and the Giants.
Warrants are filled with the lies of police and prosecutors and people who don’t know this are to be cursed!
Apparently there aren’t enough questions about the discovery of Instagram or SMS on the Florida bar exam.
Dumb people are attracted to each other.
Madden ruins lives.
Baker finna leave yooooooo

but this scary for the organization. We have heard nothing but culture and drafting football players. This guy was the exact opposite of that. All indications were, he could care less about bettering himself as a football player and now this. This guy has made Eli Apple look like a homerun. At least Apple contributed in his first year. The only thing good you could say for this guy is Sam Beal was healthy enough to get on the field and give teams a better target to go after.

Even if found not guilty, this just doesn't have good optics for Baker. Regardless of innocence or guilt, or levels of each, I think it is becoming more obvious that he put himself poor situations with high probability of negative outcomes, to say the least.
