NGT: Jamal Adams saga worsens; opens up to Manish Mehta

JB_in_DC : 7/24/2020 11:20 am
This guy really missed his calling as a wide receiver - he's reaching levels of diva I've never seen from a safety.

Calling out both Gase and GM Joe Douglas:

Quote:
The News first reported last month that Adams had requested permission to seek a trade before citing that Gase was one factor why the two-time Pro Bowler felt uncomfortable with his long-term future with the team.

“I don’t feel like he’s the right leader for this organization to reach the Promised Land,” Adams said. “As a leader, what really bothers me is that he doesn’t have a relationship with everybody in the building.

“At the end of the day, he doesn’t address the team,” Adams added. “If there’s a problem in the locker room, he lets another coach address the team. If we’re playing sh---y and we’re losing, he doesn’t address the entire team as a group at halftime. He’ll walk out of the locker room and let another coach handle it.”

And I'll be damned if Manish Mehta isn't the worst writer to have advanced past use of crayons I've ever had the displeasure of reading.

Jamal Adams opens up about a surreal offseason - ( New Window )

Calling your HC a sucky leader is a good approach.

What's his deal?

For awhile, I thought he just wanted to be paid, but now perhaps he wants to be paid AND traded?

Any team interested in trading for his services has to wonder what will happen if/when he is unhappy with the contract he signs with you. As a Giants fan, I'd rather see some other team back up the Brink's truck for that headache.

If a team is a contender, do they want a PITA?
JohnB : 7/24/2020 12:16 pm : link
A safety isn't putting a contender over the top and carry them go to the Super Bowl. OBJ type of player because he plays an impact position. A safety? I'm not so sure.
Have him play out his five years.....

Then get a draft pick compensation and let the next team overpay him for years 6-10 of his career. makes sense to me. Is he really a Polamalu or Ed Reed difference maker?

Maybe slightly reminiscent but Not even close to what Shockey did. Shockey didn’t completely trash coughlin and Reese like this.

(justified or not), is a sure-fire way to diminish your market value. He should know that or, if not, have been so advised by his agent.

There are a few teams in the league he'd make a SB favorite.

What he did last year with the Jets was insane for a safety. 6.5 sacks and all that great coverage too???

There was a stat that said the Jets TFL rate with him in the box was league best.

From way back when...
Quote:
Shockey has been present for the entire mandatory three-day minicamp, which began on Wednesday and concluded yesterday afternoon. However, he refused Tom Coughlin's orders to join the rest of his teammates on the practice field even though everyone of his injured teammates was there.

Shockey was already facing a possible fine of $8,638 per day for not participating in a mandatory minicamp. Now he could be facing additional fines or a suspension for his blowup with Reese.

The Giants declined to comment on the incident, and neither Reese nor Shockey's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, answered e-mails or calls. Before the first report of the "huge shouting match" leaked out, Rosenhaus - who also represents Plaxico Burress - was at Giants Stadium and said he's been working to resolve the Shockey situation.
He's reaching TO levels.

I hope the Jets hold their ground with this guy. He’s only played three years so they have own him for two more and then they can franchise him. If they let him force a trade they’re not going to get fair value of what he’s worth. I’m sick of this bs,
On a macro basis I am usually pro-labor, but

as a fan, this is bad for football.

He voluntarily signed the contract under rules he knew beforehand. Now he is probably undermining his own value as an asset.

Jets actually do something right, and organization still can't catch a break. I would like JA to be permanently financially damaged, but have not a clue how to injure him without also injuring NYJ.

There is no doubting his talent. The issue is his behavior. He has a massive ego that I personally wouldn't want in my locker room especially when you consider his contract demands.
So how long until he boards a flight to Dallas?

I think you're right, Shecky. Adams is entering his 4th year and his rookie contract is eligible for renegotiation. He wants a contract that will pay him top dollar this year, before he suffers a career threatening injury. If the Jets are not amenable, maybe another team will be.

Agree... was just about to post the same thoughts. He is hurting his own value here. All he needed to do was express his thoughts to the GM And Gase in private.

“It’s definitely mixed feelings,” Adams told the News in his first comments amid the contract stalemate. “But at the end of the day, my happiness is more important. I know my worth. I’m going to stand on my beliefs. I’m going to stand on who I am as a person. And I’m not ever going to change who I am for somebody who’s judging me. Either you accept me for who I am and you work with me and support me or you don’t. It’s okay if you don’t.”

I'm sure that was Plan A, but it didn't get him the desired result, so he moved on to Plan B: create a distraction and force the issue.

I think it's pretty clear he always wanted to be traded. Best way to do that is make unreasonable contract demands. Keeps your value higher on trade market. Apparently the jokers in the front office were unwilling to do that so now you have this and they are going to end up taking a fraction of what they could have got. Egos are a fragile thing.

I'm not sure how you can really blame this on their front office.
Let's say the roles are reversed. By the trade deadline this year, Indy (random decent team in the other conference) calls asking about trading for Barkley. DG basically says thanks but no thanks and hangs up. It gets leaked that the Giants are entertaining trade talks for Barkley and then Barkley gets pissed because he feels he isn't respected if they're open to trading him.

Things calm down for the rest of the season and then during the offseason Barkley keeps saying he wants to be extended with multiple years left on his deal. Then, after not getting it, he says he wants to be traded and provides a list of teams he'd like to be traded to AND that he would be willing to go to those teams without needing an extension. Obviously DG doesn't give in so now Barkley goes to the Daily News and starts ripping DG & Judge to try to force the Giants' hand.
Would it be the jokers in the front office not giving in to Barkley or should Barkley shut up and play?
Well I don't think he wants to play for Gase. I think that's what it
Zeke's Alibi : 7/25/2020 10:02 am : link
really comes down to and Gase's track record with players is pretty clear. It seems like he has always wanted to get traded. Just that he wasn't out and out saying it and that is bubbling to the surface now with their inaction on pulling the trigger. Gase has decided that Adams is going to play for him whether he likes it or not unless they receive a Godfather offer. That ship has sailed. Just imo.
