14 seems low, but how does it compare to the last few seasons with the latest CBA rules?
Obviously, no preseason is going to be a different challenge.
There weren't a lot of padded practices in recent years. The problem is this is now combined with the absence of four preseason games. Throw in no OTAs and only limited helmet and shells work (I think Stapleton is saying only five of the latter are allowed).
this is REALLY going to mess with our offensive line (the center issue plus Andrew Thomas/Matt Peart).
Totally agree and I was not as bullish on the offensive lineman improvement as others, even before all of this. I still felt the issue at center was really going to haunt us with the rush right into Jones' face.
With returning coaching staffs have a huge advantage this season. I don’t know how rookies are expected to contribute this season.
I wouldn’t be surprised at all if Fleming or Gates are the starting RT week one. The only way a raw rookie like Peart will see the field is if the OL is decimated with injuries.
as there is almost ZERO chance this season happens.
Couldn’t agree more. Here’s an example I posted on another thread:
Yanks/Phils now cancelled. Marlins are still in isolation in Phil, so now Baltimore's schedule is screwed (they were supposed to play Marlins). Therefore 1 team's covid issue has now affected 4. Pull the plug, b/c it's going to happen to more than 1 team.

I keep hearing the answer to this is yes, because of "distraction", "excitement" etc. But every time I either read comments on social media, hear people on the radio, see people interviewed it seems to me it's at the very least a lot more mixed than you might think. I'm not seeing any evidence that like 80% of the public wants sports or any high hyperbolic number like that.

Me? No..Not like this..This would not be a “good” distraction for me with the uncertainty of it all..

I do, if it can be done safely & the product is FUBAR. Sadly, I don't think either is the case.
We all want to return to normalcy as quickly as possible and sports is a wide avenue to get there ... plus most of us are frustrated by being essentially powerless over this thing and emotions are sky high. But it’s not really about what people want anyway. Theres simply too much money involved to shut this down for a year. The best we can do is roll with it and see what happens week to week ... and never forget who brought this pos virus into being in the first place.
If you think about it further, they are going to have to expand
the roster from 53 man to something like 75 to 100 ala MLB's plans. Inevitable sickness will lead to use of those players and play will be 'different'. Expand it further to a situation similar to what just happened to the Marlins and how do you postpone an NFL game? Doubleheaders are impossible and there is only one bye week. this season will either be shortened extended out or suspended. Without being to negative I just don't see how we can expect a 'regular' season to occur.
People say shut it down but how to the players make a living? Besides the top players some of these players don’t make a lot and probably have big expenses. The season needs to be played to make all this money
some say, "why bother".
I say let them play, what do we have to lose? It's not like we were going to be competitive anyhow. Get the youngsters some playing time. coach up the players as a head start for next year.
The only reason not to play, aside from the health risk implications, is the effect on contracts. If the season is cancelled, do you simply freeze the contract and start up again next year (ie DJ would be in year 2 of his contract in fall 2021)? Perhaps losing a year of contract status playing sloppy football isn't worth it.

I think it’s easy for those of us fortunate to be able to work from home and still pay our bills to talk about shutting it all down, but there are a lot of jobs involved.
And not just players, who hopefully have been smart about their money, but team and game day staff who don’t make pro athlete incomes.
I’m not pig headed about it, I’m all for taking ever measure they can to ensure safety. But I also think advocating shut down of the season just bc the product may not be as good is a pretty short sighted opinion.
And yes, we all know the primary motivation for the NFL and owners to make it happen is TV revenue, they’re not doing this for the little guy. And a lot of related jobs are lost anyway with no fans in the stands. But it’s still well worth pulling out all the stops to try and make it happen
they may eventually consider starting in October and eliminating AFC/NFC games... so 12 game season... but they'll play. Players, coaches, team staff... need the money.
Pretty amazing to see the same group of posters on every thread say "shut it down" as if they are volunteering to pay 70% tax rates moving forward to actually pay for that policy.
Nobody has it easy but a rookie Head Coach, new team, new environment, no OTAs or spring workouts, doesn't know his players, they don't know him or the coaches, players need to learn new offensive and defensive systems, nonsense distractions with Baker and Rojas.
this is REALLY going to mess with our offensive line (the center issue plus Andrew Thomas/Matt Peart).
It’s going to mess with everybody. The well run teams will handle this better than the poorly run teams. There are like 9-10 teams with new coaching staffs, i believe. 3 in the nfc East alone.
If there’s football no one will here will be giving the giants a pass if they embarrass themselves this season, why start now.
They need to Play. This country needs to see something work especially on the backs of social distancing. The nfl can do this if most of the players are smart and the league is careful on a daily basis. The game itself doesn’t need to perform social distancing as much as the players and coaches do during off hours. Be cool, and this thing will work. The EPL did it. Time to get with the fucking program.

I'm kind of enjoying having baseball back, but I don't have a lot of enthusiasm for it. Too many important things taking up mind-space.

Under the best circumstances, it was unlikely Peart wold start. Where this will have an impact is Thomas having enough time to prove himself as a LT. Otherwise, he still is penciled in as RT, in my opinion.
as there is almost ZERO chance this season happens.

At least 4 teams. It should be more because the reality should be that both the Marlins and Phillies need to quarantine.

On point. We should regroup until players can safely practice their craft the way it is supposed to be played.

I really don't see the point to this. It's going to be a sloppy, unwatchable mess.

Should push the season back

From pure football, though, why not play?
