No argument there.
Peterson looking solid early. Velocity 93/94, mixing pitches nicely. His delivery reminds me of Buehrle and I think that was one of his comps going back to the draft. Obviously gave up a rope off the wall but probably just wanted to give JDFD a chance to show off the gun. So far so good.
94 for a lefty is mlb passable IMO, see if he keeps it up

probably a little bit of all 3. He's a big guy and the scouting report was always low 90's, so he's only a little bit ahead of that right now.
Doubt the gun is fast.
Obviously would be better if we were a better defensive team but they are on their way. Sub Gimenez for Cano and there aren't any big negatives left. Which is a nice step forward from the last...decade.
Yeah you can see why Peterson's scouting reports played up that he was a grinder. He works both sides of the plate and seems to hang in there and go after hitters. For a guy who never pitched above AA he looks polished, which probably makes some sense given his age and pedigree.

I think David Peterson is a 55 which makes me the high guy on him at BP at least I think, but you can see the outlines of a third starter here: heavy fastball, plus slider, useful enough curve and change, hits his targets

A strong MLB debut for David Peterson.
5.2 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 3 K
His night comes to an end in the sixth after 78 pitches, and leaves with a runner on second.

And the first run doesnt score if A.) ump makes the right call B.) Rosario throws the ball to first C.) Rojas challenges the call.
he was likely already warmed up since Alonso was down to 1 strike. Guessing this will shelve Diaz in the 9th though.
*Betances
Is that less than normal for him?
Last year he was 94.4 in his 1 inning pitched which is where he is so far to start this year as well.
Very likely wont when Brach, Hughes, and Gsellman return.

shouldn't see any meaningful appearances.

Yep, he (along with Bashlor and Sewald) are placeholders.

the last remaining Sandy Alderson relief pitching acquisition in that cluster of bullpen arms he traded for few years back?

Zamora, too, right? And is Nogosek still around? Guy pitched great at AAA
Degrom is the best pitcher in baseball. That always gives you a chance in the postseason. To me, the key is getting Stroman back. Jake, Stro, Matz—that’s good enough if the bullpen and lineup live up to expectations.
I thought the stuff from Peterson was pretty solid. His velocity was there, his ball moved, and he threw a lot of pitches. Him turning into a reliable above average 4th/5th starter type would be really sweet for us in 2020 and going into next year too. There's a real difference between Matz type production and Lockett/Oswalt type production.
All that said, he was hit around a bit, 9 baserunners (7h and 2bb) in less than 6 innings is a WHIP over 1.5, and he didn't get a bunch of strikeouts either. D did him in a little bit, but that's the risk you take when you can't generate Ks. He's certainly earned a few more starts until Stroman is ready and earned a chance to compete with Wacha and Porcello for a rotation spot this year.
