I was told at the information desk this morning there is some hockey on tonight? I see the Rangers are playing the Islanders in Toronto on MSG. 8 PM. Is this real?
What do we think? How will all of this transpire? Your guess is as bad as mine. Don't pull something, everyone.
It is added to the broadcast.
Thanks, I didn't realize it. Makes sense though. How is the referee penalty announcements made? It seemed like the refs didn't have mics.
I saw Wes McCauley go to turn his microphone on - attached to his waist, but it wasn't there. I too heard him call penalties, but thought without a crowd maybe there was some other way they were doing it - like maybe just with the microphones they have to capture the game sounds. I heard about 5 f-bombs from players.
I don't know if it's new but I read they added cameras to the 4 corner boards - not sure if they were pointed at the goal/goal line or somewhere else, but I think there's definitely going to be some new looks.
Both broadcasters will also be using a JitaCam, which is a camera on a large, 360-degree crane positioned over the ice.
Microphones will be placed throughout each arena, including at ice level, to pick up more sounds from the game. The NHL has also worked with each of the 24 participating teams to collect audio unique to their home venues, including goal horns, music compilations and fan chants.
In addition, the NHL has constructed a rink-wide stage covering empty seats behind team benches that will feature LED screens, monitors and banners. Regional networks covering the games in the qualifiers and first round of the playoffs will be able to use virtual advertisements on the glass behind each goal....
It's EA that is providing the crowd noise.
Personally, I find the crowd noise to be really cringe inducing but they didn't go too overboard with it at least in the game I watched so it's not as bad as I thought it might be. Hopefully they don't ramp it up for the actual tourney.
the cringiest thing about it was one of the Leafs goals the goal horn delayed for about 6 seconds after the goal (a short-handed goal) and then went off and the players were even done celebrating.
that seemed awkward, but I didn't think it was over the top in their use of it.
a 5 month hiatus doesn't magically make a bad team good. Montreal showed last night they are not a playoff team and all the warts from March are still there, expect they were sellers at the deadline, dealing a top 4 D and a 4th line, and it showed.
To summarize, bad teams will still be bad 5 months later.
My theory is that raw talent will matter more to begin with than usual because of the layoff.
(I'm going to be immediately proven wrong, aren't I?)
This can't be real, right?
I did read a Claude Julien comment that he was worried about fights at the hotel among rivals, but I thought he was being funny when he said that. I'd beat the hell out of Marchand though.

#Bruins F Brad Marchand has been warned to stop pressing all the elevator floor buttons prior to offloading.
I think they may win a round or two if they gel quickly, but the bottom six and defense is too weak for them to win the Cup this year.
Shesterkin plays the first half of the game. Lundqvist will finish.
Killed it. lGR
Dude, Zibanejad was on fucking fire heading into the stoppage. 23 goals in 22 games. Including that 5 goal game against the Caps.
Kakko looked pretty good, as did Gauthier.
Yeah, credit to the Islanders for playing strong defense, but the Rangers barely made the goalies work at all.
Then they each play the first round playoff winners?
It’s good but only because the bye teams still play and can keep fresh.
They looked slower than a panda bear wearing slippers.

I take that back. I think I jinxed him. Hajek looked like shit after I posted that and made me yearn for Staal. Haha
I already hate that team. Stupid name.
Especially Montreal who went 0 for 6 and gave up 2 short-handed goals and never in 6 tries really even got set up or threatened to score.
I thought the skill guys looked good on the Leafs, same with the Oilers and Av's for the most part.
So maybe Brett is right and early on talent will shine.

I think you'll see the fast guys, and the guys who keep their feet moving early draw a bunch of hooking and holding calls. By the real playoffs I think it'll normalize but who knows.
Dumb that the stats for this round will count as playoff stats

Leafs game, I don't think the play by the Leafs was particularly sloppy - except both teams power plays struggled.

I think you're probably right, it was obvious in the games I saw- many players were out of shape, leading to penalties, and odd man rushes, still I was impressed with some teams (Leafs, Oilers, Lightning) with how crisp their breakouts were and how effective their transition game was.
The Kraken don't start play until the 2021-22 season.
The Islanders are a good team to have an exhibition against. They make you work along the boards, they make you work to get into the offensive zone
I'm hoping the Rangers will find their legs as the series goes on but talent is going to have to come through. We'll need Panarin or Zibby to carry us.
I thought Kakko looked like a completely different player out there, also thought Gaultier played well and Shesterkin looked to continue where he left off
I think it'll open up a bit more in the Rangers favor vs Carolina
No idea if symptomatic, positive, came in contact with someone positive, etc. but huge loss for the Stars if he's out long-term.

oh please tell me he didnt get a bunch of people ill. With baseball choking on their own ineptitude, we cannot have a pause in these playoffs too. Hopefully this is a precaution as Dallas is only playing for seeding the next two weeks.
Pastrnak missed the first week of practice because he was "unfit to play". So it doesn't necessarily mean it's a disaster.
Under the current schedule, Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final would be on Oct. 4th.
