Frazier needs looks for his trade value not just for us. Eventually we are going to have to trade him at bargain basement prices if he doesn't get some MLB burn and this is the perfect game to give him some burn
Frazier's not with the team right now, though, right? Didn't he get sent down to the minor league camp or whatever they're calling it?
Cole is first true ace this team has had since when?
I want Frazier to get a shot. Keep Gardy fresh by rotating him through.
I doubt Frazier is up next. I imagine if they bench Gardy it's Tauchman coming in.
I think Miggy gets first crack in LF, at least vs lefty pitchers. Maybe even against some righties too if his bat is what we expect from him and Gardy continues to struggle.
Frazier is an above average MLB player. He needs to play because if he isn't part of our long term plans, we need to show him off to someone who matches up with us for a trade.
I also think he deserves a real shot to stick with the team long-term. Let him and Tauchman fight it out to the death.

Good point.
RE: Cole is first true ace this team has had since when?
Who should be playing DH today? The Yanks are not playing the Phillies, which I could see the need to play a DH. Playing a DH against the Orioles makes no sense.
Sorry just seeing this. The Yankees were scheduled to be in Baltimore next Tuesday - Thursday. By playing a DH today you a) get some games In with no threat of weather, b) bank those games and don’t worry about virus spread at some point, C) both teams well rested with plenty pitching available to play 2, d) open up next week which I presume will include makeup games against phillies but strangely hasn’t been announced yet I don’t think.
They should have figured this out Monday and played last night but what’s done is done.
Strong game all around for the Yankees, but unimpressed by Kriske, who seemed to be having trouble staying in the strike zone and needed the help he got too often from the home plate umpire. Gardner? Favorite player, but not looking good in his at bats.

Let’s not be so hard on Kriske. He was a kid making his MLB debut, no doubt very amped up and nervous. Good spot to break him in, with a 6 run lead against the Orioles
One thing that hasn’t really been talked about, which is a good thing in a way, is Sanchez and the other catchers using the new crouch with one knee down, as taught by Tanner Swanson, their new catching coach.
The story was this style helps most with framing pitches to help pitchers get borderline strikes, if I recall. Not sure if this is playing a role, too small a sample size, but the Yanks do seem to be getting more borderline strike calls so far in 4 games than we’re used to. Could be as simple as the umpires are rusty too, but I feel like the balance or borderline calls is more in the Yanks favor so far. And with the way Judge and others have gotten boned in recent years by umps, I’m just fine with that.
Most important is we haven’t yet seen any issues with Sanchez adapting. He’s seemed perfectly comfortable back there, and that’s 2 strong starts with him catching Cole under his belt
really struggling. Him and Sanchez are in quicksand at the plate.
.
Both are 0-12, El Gary off to his usual quick start.
The odorous O's are always a good remedy, when a team
has been off for a couple of days...
Both are not even making contact.
If I am a pitcher/coach I also never throw Judge an inside pitch or a FB. He is still swinging at crap low and off the plate. He really needs to either to layoff completely(?) or adapt. He is a great player, but needs to work on that pitch.

I would like to see Judge develop a better two strike approach, especially behind in the count.
He is going to strike out a lot though, same for Stanton.

Yes, he and Stanton will K a lot - nature of the beast. I hate to see it because if he would just ignore low and away, most of which are sliders off the plate) it would make the pitchers throw strikes. Cat and mouse, for sure.
For Gary, why would any pitcher throw a FB? Just keep throwing shitty sliders and breakers.
What you're forgetting is that Judge used to lay off those a lot
And got a metric asston of terrible strike calls against him. I'm reasonably certain that he feels compelled to swing at more low pitches for that reason, because a lot of them were getting called anyway.

He did get a lot called, probably 50%. But not swinging means only 50% are strikes vs 100% if he swings. I do think he is getting less called, especially the very low ones. I also think the less he swings, then he may influence those from being called, not much but some. He'll never get the Rod Carew or Wade Boggs courtesy.

Maybe I'm just missing it, but those "close" non-strike strike calls have not seemed to me to have been in the Yanks' favor. I'd love it to actually be the way you're seeing it. More tonight and I'll try to keep track of who gets the most of them. Also agree that it may just be rusty umps.

this team has had a bunch of awesome #2's... or even 1A's... but Cole is the real deal.
complete confidence with him on the mound.

CC in his prime was definitely and ACE. An absolute workhorse. Pitched on 3 days rest often in the playoffs
7-3

With the Indians and Brewers he definitely was an ace. And probably the 1st 2 years with the Yanks.

CC was an ace. There is no question about that. Was he ever as good as Cole? I don't think so.

Completely agree.

Means is actually a pretty good lefty, and no idea what to expect w/ Happ.
Happ is the Tyler Clippard of starters
Means is definitely a good pitcher. I think Happ will be better this year. I think the ball has been "detuned" and he was throwing better in ST.
Green working on his offspeed pitch.
Bat on ball skills. I want more guys with that skill in this lineup.
That was some strike call to Judge on the first pitch....
9-3
Now get back to your bubbles boys!
