NFT: Covid testing

Bubba : 7/29/2020 3:45 pm
I may be putting my head in the lions mouth with this but I see Juan Soto has finally been cleared to play.

"Per the report, Soto has registered six negative tests — three from official league tests and three from team-administered tests. He has yet to string together two negatives that qualify to clear him for activation. Putting aside the phenom’s own situation, it’s yet another reminder that testing for the virus is anything but a foolproof means of ascertaining an infection."

He has finally had consecutive negative tests and been cleared.

Makes me wonder if the CDC is watching what is happening in pro sports regarding covid testing. Pro sports is basically performing their own case study regarding the accuracy of the testing.

It appears a Professional athlete is able to get six tests with results within a week. Nice to know.
Does testing positive twice

count for 2 positive cases? and vice versa w/ negative testing?
The switch between positive and negative

could be related to a relatively “weak” viral load.

And to answer another question, if you get 8 positive tests, you are only counted once for COVID test reports.

I was reading about studies which indicate that tests may continue to pick up remnants of inactive virus for some time. Nobody knows how long ago he was infected.

I was wondering about how the tests are counted. These pros are being tested daily.

The antibody test is supposed to be less accurate than the rapid test. The antibody test is for past infection.

FWIW, some states were only counting positives once, but counting negatives each time. Not sure if that is still an ongoing practice or not.

I don't think so in all honesty. The MLB and sports leagues are able to pump tests and results out rapidly, much more so than the general public. And just ask yourself how this would even work - are you really cool with being tested daily? Who's paying for it? When will I get the results?

Unless there's a 10 second test that can be mass produced for cheap I don't see it is being realistic for the general public.
I guess my poorly

made point to this is these athletes are being tested daily and in the case of Soto getting very mixed results. So as an individual I get tested once do you trust the result.

Major decisions within families employers etc. are being made on the basis of these results.

It absolutely does. My wife's hospital has switched to saliva even knowing it has a horrendous false positive rate.

False positives are way better than false negatives.
