Opens up a roster spot

And Solder opting out yesterday opens up some cap space. Sounds like the right time to bring in a veteran center on a one year contract....

He's the only guy still out there I can think of too, who's not over the hill already.
Slim pickings out there. But also slim going into the season with Pulley, possibly a rookie making a position change, and maybe Halapio again

Good question. Seeing how with no games and lack of hitting, there should be less injuries.
why retire and not opt out?

That's pocket change compared to all that Apple money.

He makes so much sense for the Giants especially since he can also play guard and RT.

The 150k is an advance on next year's salary. If he took the 150k this year and retired before 2021 season he'd theoretically have to repay the 150k.
