For those who did not see the first part of the game.
Mets scored 6 runs in the top of the fifth to take an 8-2 lead.
Porcello walked the lead off hitter in th 5th and then Roses and JD had a mix up and a pop fly bounced off JD’s glove.
Manger brought in Seward to get the double play grounder with his heavy slider. He did get it but Pete could not pick a low throw from Cano. Pete has to make that play.
Mets scored 2 in the top of the sixth on a Rose HR and a typical Nimmo manufactured run.
Shreve gave one back but was saved by a leaping Giminez to snare a rocket. Incredible how high the kid got into the air. Gamines is impressive. Might not have the size to be a big hitter but has a high baseball IQ and a real good feel for the game. Excellent fielder and base runner.
I get that he doesn't really do anything too loud but good 2 way players at premium positions aren't exactly a dime a dozen. The crusty corse of Robinson Cano is barely competent either way at this point.
Interesting situation here with BP management. Lugo is the right guy to bring in if Betances can't get his way out of the jam. But then in the 9th do they go back to Diaz to try to give him a confidence boost after asking to pitch more consistently? Or give Familia a shot? Or ask Lugo to throw multiple innings if he has to come in for Betances?
Cmon Lugo, figure it out.
lol what in the actual fuck? 8 games and you're asking that question? are you dumb?
Cano
Porcello
shitty defense from all the catchers
How much money was lit on fire and how many prospects purged to add the players above? Stroman?
I mean they scored 10 runs....and lost.

Wait till Kelenic comes up in 2 years.
We don’t have any starting pitching outside of Fried and Soroka and our pen will wear down. 31/32 wins should get NL East team in the playoffs in the playoffs.

2 years? He almost made the team this year. Unfortunately it was the Mariners and not the Mets.
I continue to think that it wasn't a coincidence that the team played it's best ball last year when it was all young guys and the best defensive squad because Lagares was in CF and McNeil was at 2nd. The old guys on this team are pretty much all overpaid and at best 1 dimensional. At worst they are cooked. In the 9th even when Cano walked to get the tying run to 2nd there was zero energy. Veterans who are HOF bound and the highest paid guys on the team inevitably set the tone for the lockerroom and while he obviously had a good night at the plate tonight I can't help but feel like Cano is just an anchor that everyone has to tip toe around. Cespedes too to a degree, but he's not hurting them in the field and a bunch of players were at least here when he helped carry them to the WS. But re: Cano, at any of our jobs if someone that overpaid and underperforming was brought in by their former associate, and the guy didn't have the best attitude, it would suck whatever joy there is right out of the room too. It would create a somewhat toxic environment unless that guy was really producing.
Obviously this one is on the bullpen first and foremost and it's hard to get too down on Lugo because of how good he's been so it's frustrating that on the rare nights he doesn't have it the defense around him makes things more difficult. When it rains it monsoons with this franchise.
this team's downfall is all pitching and not just on BVW, it's on Rojas too (and the players, so often no one wants to allow the players any accountability).
the way they use Lugo is not sustainable - could have seen this coming a mile away with Lugo in this role.

It will come down to Cole Hamels. He has to get healthy plus I want to see them give Ian Anderson, Patrick Weigel, and Tucker Davidson get a chance to start.
I disagree about the bullpen. The Braves will have Will Smith coming back soon plus they haven’t used Weigel yet. The bullpen should be a fine all season.
I’m not sure if the season will be completed but I do feel a lot better about the Braves then I did two weeks ago. Swanson is breaking out and Ozuna is fully motivated and has been better than expected. Markakis opted back in which should make Matt Adams expendable. The Braves could platoon Markakis with Duvall as they originally planned.
BVW didn't even seriously consider most of the veteran managers out there of which he could have chosen one who was specifically strong in that area. It definitely would have been very high on my list of criteria. Instead they were luke warm on candidates whom they feared wouldn't be "collaborative with the FO" and proceeded to first hire Beltran, who'd obviously never managed before, combo'd him with a well regarded but first time pitching coach, and then promoted Rojas instead of hiring 1 of the vets still hanging around out there like Dusty (who I know gets criticized for how he uses his BP, but that's true of just about every manager).
And even with all that said I don't even think Rojas has used the pen all that badly so far. Diaz was the right call in the game where he gave up the Ozuna homer on the final strike. The 5 days in between games was non-ideal, but in between Wilson/Lugo each saved a few wins before they ultimately went to the well 1 too many times. The players aren't skirting blame here either, I think most would agree the poor start in the BP is first and foremost on Diaz. And in the rotation Porcello. Both have been as bad as can be so far - along with the defense behind them which as reliable as clockwork is dead last in the league in team DRS at this early stage of the season.
On the field it's an interesting start for Wacha today. If he's going to contribute anything beyond inconsistency today would be a great day to come out and give a reeling team and bullpen a quality start deeper into the game.
McNeil 3B
Alonso 1B
Conforto RF
Cano 2B
Cespedes DH
Smith LF
Ramos C
Rosario SS
Wacha - RHP
Right...when they choose Arod, his salary cap and 30 other investors and SJWs and zero money left over to run the team. This is exactly how I see it happening LOL. Bank on the Wilpons still being involved with the team in some way.

I also see the AROD group as so a Mets move. Cheap and minimal funds and celebrity clueless
New owners looking to make a splash (but hopefully not a Cano trade splash), get Syndergaard back, figure out Stroman, get rid of Cespedes bloated contract, get rid of players like Ramos (unless they want to pay $10M for him), Lowrie, Porcello and build smartly around the nucleus.
I know some people on here feel he's a reliever, but I wonder if they stretch him out after the TJS or give him a shot at starting.
he was exclusively a starter in the minors from what I remember.
Whether it's because of no fans or something else the fact is I think it's true. They are a rather boring team that does have the feeling about them of being flat and lifeless.

I would agree ...please put us out of our misery! And though this is a small sample size, even in a condensed season, you’d have to believe that what we’re seeing is a true representation of the 2020 NY Mets. You can see it and feel it through the your flat screen. They’re lifeless, listless, less than clutch, can’t defend, have one legit SP to date and the BP has been a collective disaster. All of the so-called love this squad was getting prior to the season was just an excuse to write an article about the COVID-19 NY Mets.
4th worst defense by DRS
8th worst BA w/ RISP (and 3rd most K's)
Last year in August, when they played well, the BP pitched well and the defense made a remarkable turnaround that's still kind of inexplicable - though Lagares entering CF and Cano exiting 2B were obvious upgrades. And they obviously got a ton of big hits up and down the lineup.
So far everything that can go wrong has pretty much gone wrong and while 1 big winning streak could turn things around there are still clear flaws with the roster. Ramos loses borderline strikes for his pitchers every night. The defense allows extra outs every night. Diaz is insanely inconsistent which has forced the rest of the BP into unsettled roles and pitching too often.
I think simplifying our goals for this season may be the best way to get something out of it, so my hope for this season is that Rojas finds his voice as a strong manager and makes some bold decisions that allow him to assume positive leadership. If I were him I'd tell the team that nobody is playing at all if they don't play good defense. Period. That is #1 because it's been unimportant here for way too long so the only way to correct that is to make it top priority. And I'd tell the bullpen that i'm auditioning closers until we find someone - everyone interested can get their shot. Nobody is being handed their spots. And if I had to bench Cano or move him to DH to play all young guys in the field like Gimenez I'd do that too.
