DeAngelo is a game-time decision. If he can't go, Hajek will suit up (God help us).

We don't know who will be starting in goal for either team today, but we do know the March to the Cup (or to Alexis Lafrenniere) begins in 70 minutes. Go Rangers!

but I don't think they should play the goal horn and song when the road team scores. We're the road team, we don't usually get that, we shouldn't get it now.

Havent seen this addressed yet, but regarding NHL injuries for these playoffs, ANY injury, absence, whatever, is going to be labeled "unfit to play". Does not mean the guy was out getting hammered and is now hung over, just out of jail, anything like that. Could be a broken nail, could be a broken leg, but whatever it is, he is unfit to play.

What if Igor was told that Hank would start over him and he went off on the Coach?
Panarin has not looked good but look

at his line, with Fast in the locker room. That said, he wasn't great vs Islanders, but no one was

Carolina pretty much wiped the floor with them
NYerInMA : 8/1/2020 2:38 pm : link
Gotta change things up for Game 2. They got outworked to the puck pretty consistently.
They just need another 6-9 periods and then they'll be ready to go.

I'm afraid so.
part of me still looks at this SC Playoffs appearance
ColHowPepper : 8/1/2020 3:33 pm : link
as playing with house money, so I am not bummed to my core. It was not something I expected at the beginning or middle of the season, though certainly expectations were raised in the last ~30 games until the pause.

One clear positive: KK, as somewhat expected, has come back rejuvenated. He had so many games 2019 (incl. the Worlds) and 2020, he was exhausted and any adjustment was too much too soon for a teenager.

He has stopped being a 'deer-in-the-headlights' player, he is willing and eager to be the guy with the puck and make plays. Maybe most significantly--as exemplified by his rush into Canes end and retrieving the puck at their goal line and firing the puck from an impossible angle (that still gave Mzarek trouble)--he showed a burst of speed and skating that he just did not demonstrate during the season.

Gauthier too, more involved, more ice time, of course Fast's absence had something to do with that.

McKegg is awful; he and Howden are borderline NHLers at best.
Chicago doesn't seem to have any rust. 3-1.
Route 9 : 8/1/2020 3:46 pm : link
and not even midway through the first period
The culprits, worst of the worst
Torrag : 8/1/2020 3:49 pm : link
DeAngelo isn't an NHL defenseman. Move him to wing and save us the headaches. McKegg is so bad he should be in the AHL...forever. Chytil did nothing right and saw the ice like a blind man. If McKegg belongs in the AHL I'm not sure where Giuseppe belongs because he's even worse.

My 'For Shame' player is Adam Fox? Why? Because he was as bad as anyone on the team but he has real talent so there's no excuse for it.

Quinn better figure out how to get people on the ice that can contribute or this is going to be a short series and on to the links.
I had such high expectation .....
George from PA : 8/1/2020 4:27 pm : link
That sucked
Meaningless no fan glorified exhibition games

I've been rooting for the Rangers since he late 60's. They're still missing a lot of important pieces if they want to build a power house. Maybe some are waiting below the NHL level right now maybe not. I'd rather they win the lottery than this tournament.
You don't have to get your hopes too high.
Route 9 : 8/1/2020 7:21 pm : link
They ain't winning shit.
I don't want to get ahead of myself, but just watching Brett Howden
Anakim : 8/1/2020 7:45 pm : link
today and watching Libor Hajek all season in the bigs. What the hell was Gorton thinking with that McDonagh/Miller trade? What did the scouts see in Hajek and Howden? When we traded for them, everyone said that they were low-ceiling players. As of now, they're both borderline NHL players.

So we traded a top-pair guy in McDonagh and a top-6 F in Miller for two low-ceiling prospects who are now borderline NHL players, a late first rounder (we'll see how Nils Lundkvist fares in 2022) and a second rounder.

It's not Porzings trade-bad, but that was a horrible deal. The Staal trade was bad. The Smith trade was bad. The Trouba trade looks like it'll be a REAL clunker. Paying 8M per for 7 years for average play isn't going to cut it. Meanwhile, Pionk has found his game in Winnipeg and the first round pick they got from us was used on a promising defenseman named Ville Heinola.

Weird, it looks like you're right, but there are pictures on twitter of the Rangers lineup card with Shesterkin as the starter. Really not sure what's going on.
bah
Greg from LI : 8/3/2020 11:49 am : link
Not than Lundqvist didn't play well in game 1, but I'd rather have Shesterkin's elite puckhandling out there to help negate Carolina's heavy forecheck. Oh well.

Igor practiced yesterday but Quinn said it would be a gametime decision. Guess he made his decision late.
