day 1 halfway done. Figured I''d start a thread for not just the Rangers games.
Rangers and Canes were rusty on specials (though CAR looked much better), 1 for 14 combined on the PP. Good intensity though, hard hitting game. I thought Hank was great.
I didn't see any of NYI vs FLA, but the score is about what I'd expect from a Trotz team.
PIT came out like a house on fire, Price stood tall and MTL's two youngsters, Kotkaniemi and Suzuki have the Habs with a 2 - 0 lead. momentum is starting to shift to MTL, but PIT can score quickly. MTL defense is a massive Achilles heel.
Xavier Oulllet (an AHL defenseman) standing next to Crosby.
Pens dominating now.
only need to score more than you allow (captain obvious? lol)
this probably won't end well for the habs.
D really took a hit without Pelech during the regular season. That being said, you can’t bank on winning every game 2-1. Would have loved to have landed Panarin last off-season.
Nice triangle 🔺
yeah, re-joined the team last week
in August.
non-factor the whole game, but OT is his time.
MTL does not have the skill players for OT.
Calder candidate Dominik Kubalik puts up 5 points in his playoff debut, and the b-hawks beat the Oilers 6 - 4.
Drouin also misses the net (actually lost the puck).

I don't know the rule today. I used to ref 20 years ago. But back then if the ref thought a scoring chance was taken away he had the descretion to call the PS.
yeah, good point, Marchand was actually in a shootout, not a penalty shot.
Just tuning in now. Gotta’ say, it’s nice to see the NBA and the NHL.
only during breaks in play in MTL vs PIT game. Biggest news was scheifele being knocked out with what looked like just an unfortunate awkward knee injury.
headlines/tweets blame Tkachuck, who is a massive agitator, but I don't think he did anything wrong at all, I don't think he even made contact.
Johnny hockey had a nice goal to tie it and then CGY scored again (both CGY goals in the 2nd)
Maurice said the Tkachuk hit was intentional - I didn't think it was at all.
PIT outplayed MTL by far.
1. It's unlikely any of them win the Cup.
2. Going through the four rounds of playoffs is brutal and I think you're a worthy winner if you get through them.
We'll probably see some weird results, but that's how it's always been. I don't think you'll see MTL or CHI win the Cup (sorry pj).
Where was the net camera shot? Don't they have one directly above the line?
Quote:
Looks like the Avalanche just scored the GWG with .1 left on the board

yeah, it was legit, insane, but legit.
I think last year they were the best team, but they sort of lucked out when TBL and WAS were beaten in the 1st round.
Not that CAR or CBJ weren't formidable, but neither would have pressed the Bruins as much as TBL or WAS potentially could have. CBJ did take the B's to 6, but CAR was swept. and then CAR swept the NYI and I think the NYI were probably the 3rd team who would have given the B's the toughest matchup.
With re-seeding now after each round, there won't be any bracket breaks.
WPG vs CAL game 2 (great game 1) at 2:30pm on NHLN (CAL leads 1 - 0)
WAS vs TBL (round robin game) at 4pm on NBCSN
DAL vs VEG (round robin game) at 6:30pm on NHLN
MTL vs PIT game 2 at 8pm on NBCSN (MTL leads 1 - 0)
CHI vs EDM game 2 at 10:30 on NHLN (CHI leads 1 - 0)
I wonder if the late switch left the team flat...
Still LVG and PHI as the favorites.

It's more than obvious the Bruins are behind the curve and not quite there in terms of conditioning and chemistry.....it's going to happen to certain teams.
They are a good team but given how they have returned, they have horrible matchup issues with both WASH and TB. In fact, they have only beaten WASH once in like the last 18 meetings or something ridiculous.
Philly was probably the one team they had good odds to beat.
Their best strategy now - besides of course winning - would be to get the team whipped back into shape during round robin and take it from there....fourth seed probably is a real possibility.
They can beat any of the qualifying teams and their toughest matchups (TB, WASH, PHIL) are all in the next round anyway and games are at neutral sites......besides last change, home ice (fans, travel, etc) is out the window.
Jets vs Flames are on now.
Jets missing Schiefele and Patrick Laine. Tall order for them overcome.
but they are leading 1 - 0, down in the series 1 - 0.
even up the series at 1.
I think the arenas look great too. Love the video boards and the tarps were a good idea
Full marks to the NHL

yeah, I agree, solid job by the NHL.
