day 1 halfway done. Figured I''d start a thread for not just the Rangers games.
Rangers and Canes were rusty on specials (though CAR looked much better), 1 for 14 combined on the PP. Good intensity though, hard hitting game. I thought Hank was great.
I didn't see any of NYI vs FLA, but the score is about what I'd expect from a Trotz team.
PIT came out like a house on fire, Price stood tall and MTL's two youngsters, Kotkaniemi and Suzuki have the Habs with a 2 - 0 lead. momentum is starting to shift to MTL, but PIT can score quickly. MTL defense is a massive Achilles heel.
no Crosby
no Malkin
I don't think this is what the NHL wanted by expanding the field.
but I'll take it.
When Pittsburgh wins the lottery NHL will still be happy.
No idea why fans think the NHL wants PIT to be good. They don't want any team to be in dire financial straits - it's bad for the league, but at the end of the day they don't give a shit if PIT relocates to the sun belt, they care about the original 6 teams and Canadian teams more.
not playoff OT
Boston/Washington - Round robin
Dallas/St. Louis - Round robin
Columbus/Toronto - Game 5
I am starting to warm on the Philly to the finals opinions some on here had.
And moneypuck also had them as the EC favorite (in fact I believe as cup favorites).
I still think Boston gets their head out of their ass, but they made it harder for themselves.
B's VS Canes
Whoever wins CBJ/Leafs lucks out, they'll play Tampa without Stamkos or Hedman.
They play CAR now instead of MTL. Massive difference in quality of team.
If they won today they would have played NYI so I'm not sure this game mattered too much since both CAR and NYI are tough teams except it's not brackets, it's re-seeding so being #4 could hurt down the road too.
Blues lose to Stars in a SO.
Both 1st place teams wind up 4th.
Last game of the preliminary round coming up in 90 min and decides who goes home, CBJ or TOR.
I need to see how he missed that.
Still down 1 - 0 with 3 and a half left in the 2nd, but the leafs are controlling the play and dominating zone time.
I need to see how he missed that.
Was it a Rick Nash 2014 type of miss?

missed an empty net that would have tied it.

Not quite the same. Nash went off a D's stick, Tavares just missed the net cleanly - looked like he hit a post.
Andersen can't let that in.
Andersen can't let that in.
I know his brother is a pretty good prospect in the upcoming Draft. Is he speedy like his brother?
you must be new to this series, lol.
nothing is put away. ever.

I'm well aware, especially after last game

Jean-Luc. I don't think he's as good a prospect, hard for me to know since for me I mostly see them in the international tournaments and they were mostly canceled.
Except the Hlinka where Jean-Luc was awesome. He is fast, not sure he's as fast as Liam though. That Canada team was stacked. Byfield, Perfetti, Drysdale, Lapierre, etc.
Granted the D was preventing it from being a total tap in, but you expect an NHL player to hit this empty net - let alone one as much as star as Tavares.

CBJ...again.
The Leafs are in the Lafreniere sweepstakes.
CBJ...again.
.... With two probable hall of famers out of the lineup
One of:
WIN
FLA
MIN
NYR
PIT
EDM
TOR
NSH
will pick Alexis Lafreniere
The teams who do not win will be slotted from 9 to 15 in reverse order of their winning percentage.

I will be shocked if it's not Pitt or the rangers
Bruins over Hurricanes
Capitals over Islanders
Blue Jackets over Lightning (I think not having Hedman and Stamkos will really hurt)
AND the ultimate upset...Canadiens over Flyers in an absolute shocker
West:
Flames over Stars
Huge upset: Blackhawks over Golden Knights
Blues over Canucks
And one more final upset: Coyotes over Avalanche
Yep, I'm going with both 12 seeds upsetting the #1 seeds
The Leafs are in the Lafreniere sweepstakes.
Doesn’t Carolina now own this pick?

Hey, maybe the Senators trade 3 + 5 for the right to pick Lafreniere...:)
Or the Rangers are their usual "smartest people in the room" selves and take Byfield over Laf.

It's top-10 protected

If the Rangers don't win the Lottery, at least let the Wild, Predators or Jets win. Florida has picked top-5 numerous times. Oilers have picked top-3 many times. Fuck the Maple Leafs and a huge fuck you to the Penguins.
19 - Never
If EDM could get 3 and 5 and have OTT take back James Neal it could be a good trade for both teams (better for EDM IMO).
OTT can stay at 3 and 5 and get Stutzle or Byfield at 3 and Drysdale or Perfetti at 5. Maybe they view that combo as better than Lafreniere - not to mention James Neals cap damage.
