and then comes to the majors and looks like a long term solution at 3B.
He really wasn't bad in the minors. He just didn't jump off the page or screen at you. He was a decent hitter and his power was up and down. He certainly showed signs and potential.
Paxton had an injury this offseason. Most felt he wouldn't have been ready for the start of the season. I don't know when he really started to start working out again. Is it possible the Yanks took it very slow with him to guarantee he'd be ready to go when baseball started back up and could that be why he doesn't have that extra few mph on his fastball?
Good question. Don’t know the answer. However, I’m hoping he’s working his way back and as long as he’s at the top of his game come post season the Yankees should be ok.
Wasn't the injury related to his throwing arm? The lack of velocity can't be a coincidence. Would love for him to get right and price himself out of our budget. Doesn't seem likely though.
I think he can get to 20 HR's but even that's a tall order (that's pro-rated 59 HR season). There's a bunch of guys that hit 30 HR's prior to the All Star Break and that's in what, 80/90 games?
I'd say if he's on a special run in this odd 2020 season that he has a shot at up to 25. More than that is just too big of an anomaly to predict.
When Judge came up in the 8th last night, DJ was on first. I'm saying to myself, no way I pitch to Judge. I don't care if walking him puts DJ at second base. I'd rather face an ice cold Torres with a runner in scoring position than a red hot Judge. What do you guys think, obviously with the benefit of hindsight now? I could not believe that 2-0 pitch to Judge.

That was not smart, with Torres struggling as well,
just put him on first base. Then Barnes throws a hanging curve ball, and boom!
Roenicke should have put up four fingers there.
way to spend some of the weekend. If this were a full season I'd be a bit concerned about Paxton. Hope he gets his shit together.

Paxton needs to find that fastball again, very mediocre
without it. They are 7-1 with only 3 good starts,
(two by Cole, and one by Monty). The BP has done its job
for the most part.

The scary part about Paxton is he admitted he’s concerned about the velocity drop. Usually you get the ole “I’m fine, usually takes me awhile to get going”, etc. The Yankees can’t afford to keep running him out there if he’s only going to get them one or two innings and putting them in early deficits. If I’m the Yanks, he gets one or two more starts and if his velocity isn’t better, IL him. Clarke Schmidt is eagerly awaiting his opportunity...
Paxton's troubles seem so much like AJ Burnett's. Mental game just not being there so early in the game, and "throwing" moreso than pitching.
Not comparing the 2 specifically, just that there are similarities with there "stuff" and it just not clicking early in games.
I'm going to cut Pax a bit more slack early on this year coming off back surgery. I know he's had plenty of time to heal and it's not April, just that as far as actually pitching coming off that surgery it is April, innings wise for him.
He hit 93 last night so his velocity is creeping up, and I think maybe it's just a matter of working all the kinks out and maybe feeling comfortable and confident in his body out there again. Things that were second nature like release point, stride, landing etc might just take a bit more time to get right after surgery.
Tauchman has earned the starting job. Don't screw with it.
468 foot bomb.
this is what a healthy Judge hits like. We just need to keep him healthy.
Over 900 ft of homerun
Fucking video game stuff.
Just talkin' 'bout Judge
468 foot bomb.
+1, that was a great call

Matt Vas has no more "Santa Marias!" Left to give after tonight...
Britton has started to look like the old Britton.
Liked what I saw of King.
Have to wonder if Judge was hurt more last year than acknowledged. He is swinging so freely more like his rookie year.
They are all starting to see the ball now. Voit just missed that one he popped up on.
The 2nd place Orioles!

That ends tomorrow either way since we play Philly, though. :(

Believe it was his back, not arm.

Would've been a HR in the old park!
Right over the 457 sign!
He gets probably 3.5 chances every game. He will probably play 50-55 with days off. He will have about 175 ABs. Seems a tall order.
A-Rod won MVP that year.

He'll get 4 PA per game unless we get shut out. He's batting second. No way he hits 50 HR tho. That's like 135 HR in a regular season.

27 he'd tie Barry bonds (72.9)
