7 Cardinals players have tested positive for Covid and 6 staff members. So 13 total personnel. Tigers series postponed as @markasaxon

Cardinals-White Sox game at Field of Dreams next Thursday in Dyersville, Iowa cancelled, sources tell The Athletic. Reasoning not believed to be tied to additional positive tests on Cardinals. More a logistical problem.
I believe it's winning %......which doesn't make entire sense but I do think that's it.

BillKo, I'm wondering the same. I believe that was an issue during the '81 strike. It's clear as day some of these teams will not be playing a full 60 game season.
A team playing less games could have a higher winning percentage...but that's not exactly deserving.

The Marlins are clearly banking on a playoff berth earned off their 2-1 record - don't burst their bubble.

LOL....that's exactly what I was thinking.
Normal circumstances, teams will all get pretty close to playing all their games.....but these aren't normal!!!!
You really could penalize a team that played more games, but lost more too.
Apparently the cardinals players were gambling and partying in Minneapolis - make their ‘B’ team at their alternate site play these tigers games. Probably go 0-4 but too bad ... next time follow the rules.
Still have no idea what the point is of 60 man player pools if the league isn’t using these other players.

+1 to this entire post.

Phew!!! There it is! I thought for a split second that we may actually have a sports discussion without one of the usual suspects showing up to say that the season isn’t going to happen.
I actually think it can if players stop being irresponsible.
The breakouts happen when players decide to break protocol and go out to bars/casinos/whatever.
The teams that have responsible players aren't having problems and the nature of the sport itself is such that the game is played without players near one another for the majority of the game.
For this reason, I think the NFL is going to have major problems and I don't think it'll ever really get off the ground. The virus will spread like wildfire if the NFL doesn't have a seriously stringent plan in place. I just can't see it working.
I do think MLB can survive, though. It's on the players - and there should 100% be more of a punishment in place for the ones who can't be adults here so that this stops happening.

will have to worry about it. Do you really think the league can make it to 9/27?

LOL. Isnt it incredible - these same 8-10 guys on every fucking thread just hoping at this point for bad news to happen so they can say they were right!
My view is going forward the league needs to mandate that if a team has an outbreak, their entire team is quarantined for an entire week and their backups at the alternative complexes fill in for them for a week. Cards should be playing their minor leaguers this week against the Tigers.
Go 0-4? Too bad... next time act like responsible adults.

Hey buddy. Good to hear from you. Hope all's well.
I agree with you here. The calendar is going to shrink too quickly to just put teams on pause for entire weeks at a time. To then just turn around and use winning%-based standings basically means zero punishment for teams that have players spitting on the protocols. The Marlins are sitting near the top of the NLE despite not playing a single game since July 26.
This is what the taxi squads and expanded rosters are for.
If a team has a breakout, welp, too bad. Those players all go into quarantine until they test negative twice and the backups/minor leaguers take the field in the interim. If they lose those games, no one should feel bad.
My man!
It's been a long break. I don't foresee myself posting quite as often as I used to, but now that baseball is underway and sports are slowly making their way back, I'll probably be around a bit.
Hope you're doing well.
Thanks, bud. What a year so far...
No one is acting like anything. This is literally what happened. Players were irresponsible.
Good to see you're still cranky and insufferable as ever.

We’re not giving them the death penalty genius. We’re suggesting mlb keep playing games and in the case of mass outbreak within a locker room ..... they use their taxi squad while they’re out for a week or two and what happens, happens. If they go 0-12 during that time ... so be it.
You don’t get 20 players on a team sick because one guy caught it from his family. And 6 and counting on STL. You get It because you ignored protocol you were asked to follow for a whopping 9 weeks out of 52 this year to earn your income for the year.
This isn’t hard.
Oh hi, arc.
You don’t get 20 players on a team sick because one guy caught it from his family.
Are you sure about that? LOL.......
I wasn't talking about what the Marlins or Phillies did or were worried about.
I was taking your one comment on face value.....don't MLB players get tested every other day?
Just really unimpressed with the league's contingency planning throughout on this.
- Players and staff must wear face coverings that cover the mouth and the nose at all times while at the ballpark other than while on the field of play itself. This new mandate includes the dugout and bullpen.
- In order to minimize time spent together indoors, home teams must provide outdoor covered spaces for the visiting team. Home teams must also provide appropriate spaces that allow for social distancing during rain delays.
-Home team players and staff members are now prohibited from going to, in Diamond's words, "bars, lounges, malls or other places in which larger groups gather."
- Players and team personnel must wear face coverings at all times at team hotels other than in each person's individual hotel room.
- A member of a road team, whether player or staff, must inform the team compliance officer if he or she wishes to leave the team hotel for any reason.
Diamond also tweets that MLB and the MLBPA have agreed to disciplinary measures for players and staff who violate these new guidelines. Diamond writes: Any covered individual found to be flagrantly violating these protocols, including refusing to wear a face covering after being reminded, can be banned from further participation in the 2020 season, following a written warning.
In addition to possible suspensions, MLB gravely warned that it was prepared to "turn this car around" if guys don't shape up.
We really mean it this time guys - ( New Window )
Nats got yet another home ‘road’ game. Maybe mlb can bend over a little more for them? They’ve yet to leave dc this year and won’t this weekend.
I’m at a loss for words with how MLB has handled this.

This is completely unfair and unreasonable to the other 14 NL teams.
There's no mention in the article of the players at the alternate site, nor any indication that anyone has asked Mozeliak why they're not using them while the regular roster is quarantined.
