Like it or not, we can move on from Cespedes now and focus on getting Smith and Davis more at bats.

Brandon Nimmo says he and his Mets teammates heard that Yoenis Céspedes' agents actually informed the Mets he was opting out before Sunday's game.
He's also heard the Mets' official story, that the team was blindsided during the game.
Nimmo said he doesn't know which is true.

Here's some optimism for you - BVW has already checked out because Cohen is about to get the team and he knows it's time to tune up the resume...
Whole thing is BS. Cespedes was pissed about ABs or something and said FU to the pons. Nothing to do with Covid. He went to the mall yesterday. Lol

Completely agree here. 2nd time Cespedes has used a previously known health excuse to abruptly quit on the team midseason. It appears he's just a quitter.

Mall pic is fake. It was posted 2 weeks ago.

Saying he didn’t hear anything until after the game and thought Cespedes was sick. Not sure if he’s trying to cover for him.

Ok well good to know. Doesn’t change anything though.
If they suck this year we may as well root for them to suck hard to get the highest draft pick possible too because at least the misery will be over quickly. In fact it may be a good time to stack the odds in our favor and bring back Callaway. Nobody can tank the first 2 months of a season like that guy.

With the Mets luck the draft order won't even be inverse of records (as is the norm in baseball). Keith Law has suggested it may not be.

Alonso said "I have no idea about the communication between Ces and the team". Nimmo didn't say he personally heard before the game the agent spoke to them, he's saying he's heard after the fact the agent spoke to the Mets before the game.

I would also probably flip Dom and Alonso from 1B to DH. I think Alonso's poor D was overblown, but Smith looked natural and nimble in the field last year IMO.
'06 was a deeper lineup with Wright and Floyd and no Ordonez.
This version has more athletes and since they are almost all homegrown they have several prime years ahead of them. The upside is there to be the best of the 3 groups if they can get Cano to DH and find a better defensive catcher.
They need to focus on getting these young guys into their ideal defensive alignments. McNeil needs to find a home and then find a place for Gimenez after that. If McNeil needs to go to 2nd, perhaps they end up shifting Rosario to 3B and Gimenez to short. It's hard to say but I'd start with finding a spot for McNeil and letting him focus on 1 position instead of 3 (at least while there's a DH).
On that '98 team he slashed .354/.447/.551 with a .998 OPS and a 163 OPS+. While playing gold glove caliber D.
Both the '97 and '99 seasons he regressed a little from that season, but still great years.
Easy guy to root for.
resigned Olerud in '99
resigned Hampton in '00
signed A-rod in '00
Olerud wanted to go home to Seattle and Alfonzo's prime was was quicker than it should have been but the '01/'02 teams when Piazza was still Piazza they would have contended. They went 82-80 with Shinjo getting more at bats than anyone else in the OF and basically wasted Piazza's last few good years.
Add insult to injury they ended up spending almost as much money as they would have given those guys on Mo Vaughn, Appier, Burnitz, Alomar, Matsui, Glavine etc. In 03 Piazza got hurt and it was the beginning of the end for him but that was also the year Reyes debuted and Wright debuted the following year so they would have had the talent to keep things moving in the right direction.
Is 7 runs enough? I don’t think so
Shame we let him walk for nothing.

Amed Rosario left tonight's game due to left quad tightness, per the Mets.
In addition, Robinson Canó departed due to left groin tightness.
The Mets have lost Rosario, Canó and Jeff McNeil to injury today -- three-quarters of their infield.

You've asked this a bunch of times I feel like. Its not happening man. Nor should it.
Of course McNeil and Cano in particular seemed to be red hot.
However, the Mets do have a lot of redundancy on the roster, so I would trade some players most people wouldn't. JD Davis, Alonso or Smith (one of those two should be traded), Rosario or Gimenez. I like them, but like I said they're redundant (or position-less). deGrom is probably the only player I wouldn't trade (besides Syndergaard, but if I'm not planning to extend him I'd trade him).
They did that with Alderson who was by no means perfect, and forget spending money he had to cut salary for the first few years yet look at all the young talent they now have just because they drafted/developed very well in the top rounds.
If they can continue drafting the way they have while getting rid of the sideshow atmosphere and doing better with free agency, they can contend pretty quickly. Especially if they stop letting guys like Wheeler walk over $.
Not a fan of the soft tossers, but outs are outs.
I thought you mentioned it multiple times last year? If not, no biggie. Apologies.
Thanks but it’s apparently a torn Achilles which is a dagger in the Braves playoff chances.
