Or am I alone? I love the NFL. I love the Giants. I love fall Sundays. But I'm finding it hard to get into this 2020 season because I fear a few things: 1) there's a possibility the season just goes off the rails if too many guys get sick, 2) the NFL pushes through, but guys continue to get sick & we end up seeing the backups to the backups...well, we might as well be watching glorified preseason games.
And yes, if there's a season, I'll obviously watch. No doubt about that. But my enthusiasm won't be as high as it would be in a regular year.
And it sucks because, prior to the COVID-19 break, I was really looking forward to this season to see DJ's hopeful improvement & if Judge is the guy to lead us back to the top of the NFC East.
In other news, 2020 totally blows.
Just taking it one day at a time..
And that's the best use of rapid tests?
I'm disappointed a great number of people obviously fail to grasp the reality of the situation we all live in, and are not doing their share to keep us all as safe as possible.
Working from home has led to an immense, intense amount of work on my plate. Routinely working 12+ hour days, and nights on projects in Asia that are sucking.
John, unless I m mistaken, the purpose of mitigation was to keep
Our health care system from being overwhelmed.
There was never any guarantee of it keeping us safe.
I hope football will be safe for the players and all involved, and provide an escape I sorely need.

to be safe, test every day, teams are on the field already working out, sweating..

they are using their own labs, they are not takong away tests from anyone

People in america just cannot be inconvenienced anymore.
This is sadly very true. Inconvenience has somehow become synonymous with having your freedom and liberties taken away. Too many people conflate being a selfish, lazy asshole with being a patriot because it makes them feel better.
Yea, let's blame the American people for this. It's totally our fault.
What a joke of a comment.

My sentiments exactly.
I'm more angry about the USA pulling out of the research project in China that was funded to battle disease and viruses, such as covid, before it reaches our shores. I advocate spending tax dollars on preserving human life. The lack of a national plan for testing, the availability of protection kits and other medical tech, the ensuing business battles and exorbitant prices paid in competition for said tech, etc, is unacceptable given our wealth and position as a nation. I think this is enough to describe why I'm angry. Federal and State levels need to get their priorities in order.

You seem really confused. What did I blame on the American people? I expressed an opinion on attitudes and actions as I perceive them.
Not sure how to help you understand that or mitigate your hurt feelings.

Thanks for the clarification. You are obviously more informed than I on the subject.
You have a right to be angry.
I also could care less about the politics of this, I want a solution.
I think I'll go to the UK, Spain or Italy where the people have been inconvenienced by a lack of football. Those hardy souls!!
I think I'll be into the Giants just as much.
It's giving me the much needed distraction I was hoping for.

Huh? Do you think tests come from a bottomless pit or that the NFL labs are producing their own testing supplies? And do you really believe that the NFL has their own labs? They don't. They have secured priority use of existing labs (like Quest Diagnostics, for example, who I assume the Giants are using). These labs would otherwise be performing tests on other people instead of processing a test for every NFL player every day.
There are actual items included in the NFL's tests (and all sports tests, for that matter) that could otherwise be used for testing the population, and to speed up results by making rapid testing more accessible.
Burning through 3k rapid tests a day is absolutely a depletion of resources no matter what labs are doing the testing. Those same labs could be testing the general public, but they're not.
Look, I can't tell you how to believe with regard to whether the daily NFL tests are worth it or a waste of resources or whatever else. But if you genuinely believe that those daily NFL tests aren't encroaching in any way upon the overall testing capacity for the general population in each team's community, you're kidding yourself.
That is the problem with discussing this topic. People's opinions are based on facts they like to believe are true to make their opinion palatable.

I never said they wouldnt be doing trsts outside of NFL players, but they are paying to get theirs fast tracked...
Also teams have rapid tests like the MLB but MLB does not use those tests as official...
This notion they are taking tests away from people is false, if you want to get tested you can get tested, in NJ the governor is begging people to go get tested

actually has it's own dedicated labs, that would not be doing any testing outside of NFL players?

I can only speak for NJ, but while you can easily get a test, you won't be able to get the results for 6-10 days. Correct me if I'm wrong, but this has been the case for over a month now. If it takes that long to get a result, that almost renders the test pointless.
Everyone should be getting tested a bunch and having results quickly- under 24 hours. It would make life easier and safer for everyone. Want to get visit your parents for the weekend? Get a test to make sure your clean beforehand and other similar scenarios. Its unbelievable we don't have this available by now...

If you go to an urgent med you can get your test result back in 30 minutes..

I am too, Jon.
The response to this virus in America has been abysmal and embarrassing.
I won't go further than that at the risk of turning anything political, but this has just been horrendously mismanaged here. A proper response and well-coordinated plan would have had us in significantly better shape right now and *way* further ahead of this than we are.
In fact, if, knowing what we know now, we crafted a plan to intentionally botch this as badly as possible and have the maximum number of people die, it wouldn't differ much from what was actually done. That's how bad this has been.
People are still going to need masks in public well into 2021 at this rate. There's still no uniform national plan. Governors and states were basically left to figure it out themselves, which has been an abject disaster in several.
The mixed messages, lack of uniformity, and constant changes have all turned this into a complete circus.
