A ton to choose from: Jaws, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Raiders of the Lost Ark, ET, Jurassic Park, Schindler's List, Amistad, Saving Private Ryan, Minority Report, Catch Me If You Can, Lincoln, & so many more.
Netflix just recently added Jurassic Park & I was watching that earlier. Such a damn good film & one I remember screaming in the theater during the first T-Rex attack, Haha. 'Now, eventually you do plan to have dinosaurs on your, on your dinosaur tour, right? Hello?'
Catch Me If You Can is a very good underrated movie.
I'd probably rank my top 5 as such: 1) Jaws, 2) Jurassic Park, & 3) Raiders of the Lost Ark, 4) Lincoln, & 5) ET.
How about you?
I actually agree, haha. Spielberg hasn’t been very good the last 15/20 years but I actually enjoyed War of Worlds.
As for the OP - Jaws, Jurassic Park, Catch Me if You Can are among my favorites of his.
Close Encounters of the Third Kind,

Gotcha ya!
Of all of them it's probably The Goonies (Producer/writer) or Back to the Future (producer).
If it's only something he directed then it's Raiders of the Lost Ark. Maybe Jaws.
And to the Super 8 comment - he didn't direct Super 8 but I always felt like Stranger things is a melding of Super 8 and the Goonies - definitely a Spielberg-esque vibe.
I have friends in his new West Side Story, I'm hoping that it will be up there too. Its a great story for today.
I love Indy Last Crusade . . . its the perfect adventure movie, Catch Me is pretty awesome too . . .
Erich Korngold "Kings Row" vs . . .
Kings Row vs SW Main Theme - ( New Window )
I couldn't get into Super 8.
Stranger Things is "Ok".

Those 2 are similar, but the JP/See the USA are IDENTICAL.
Director? Of the naughty film genre?
Me too, Jaws may just be my favorite movie of all time.
Also, not everyone’s cup of tea, but I enjoyed War of the World.
Does it appeal to chefs or ex chefs in particular?
Me too. Drefus is great, his inner searching reaching outward.
Something so nebulous about the plot. And somehow, more of what a real "encounter" might be like...

But Raiders is a freakin classic!
Nothing personal, but Super 8 can suck a dick, IMO. That should have been another tell that JJ Abrams can't write a whole story if his life depended on it.
First hour-plus... great. Last half hour, dogshit drivel.
Again, IMO.
Nothing comes close to "Schindler's List" .... deserved every Oscar Vote it received. And, I remember going into that movie prejudiced - thinking "Here we go ..."
Spielberg was as fair and as honest as I thought he could be .... and it was a brilliant piece of film making that brought tears to my eyes (yeah, I said it) at the end.
(in all transparency - that vote comes from an Italian/Agnostic).
LOL! Reading that was funny.
You're right. That movie sucked ass. Derivative work.
Munich was good too.
Jaws
Schindler’s List
Close Encounters of the Third Kind
Mixture of suspense, wow factor, funny, and graphics. The perfect summer movie.
Then get me his non-union Mexican equivalent!
Quote:
Still pissed he turned down directing A Star is Burns.
Then get me his non-union Mexican equivalent!
Great movie. I was at the premier and chanted "Booourns!" when it was over.
But please stop that damn girl from screaming in the movie........
....love Catch Me If You Can
Jaws is fantastic. Try to find the documentary on the making of the movie.
For awhile it had me confused because my father was stationed at the base when the Indianapolis delivered the two bombs and his telling of the story the bombs were delivered just a week before one was dropped on Hiroshima, which didn't fit with the timeline of it being delivered on June 29th. Turns out my dad was right and Quint was wrong.

That scene, when first shot, Quint/Robert Shaw was super drunk, to the point where he was embarrassed afterwards. I think they had to re-shoot and he got it sorta right, per Milton!
I'd maybe been to the Vineyard a dozen times before, but never even considered doing it. It's not a high bridge, so it's not scary to do, just I usually was always drinking in a bar or doing something else and it never seemed like a good opportunity.
But two summers ago my then 10-year old had it on her summer bucket list and when we got there I felt like I couldn't leave until I did it.
So satisfying. and every time I watch Jaws now and see the bridge scene it brings back great memories.
ET.
The correct answer.
the end
You watch Lincoln for one reason only and it’s DDL. Spielberg is a really boring director now, just no suspense or even compelling story telling anymore. He just just do documentaries at this point.
