NFT: Knicks chat: Kenny Payne to Knicks almost done

nygiants16 : 8/9/2020 8:30 am
There are rumors on twitter from Kentucky writers and Jonathon Macri that Payne is headed to the Knicks and he will be their lead development guy.

Big man coach that former Kentucky players apparently love, he is really cllse eith Wes and that is the reason hr is even thinking about coming..

He would supposedly get around 2 million a year
If anyone has the athletic

Started hearing this was all but a done deal last night on a few sites. Everyone has nothing but great things to say about Payne.

The Knicks are quietly putting together a pretty impressive front office and staff. I mean it looks good on paper right now so all we can do is hope these guys will all be on the same page. And no MSG fuckery.

Dare I say Mitchell Robinson will be an All Star next season with Thibs? Not used to feeling optimistic about the Knicks with Dolan always lurking but this does feel a bit different from all the shit years past.

they are finally using the infinite money they can spend on a staff rather than a bunch of lackeys

Payne is so well liked by those Kentucky guys that it makes me wonder if the Knicks seriously think Anthony Davis would make the jump if the Lakers fall flat in the playoffs. Bringing in a super agent like Rose as GM and World Wide Wes makes me think this isn't so far fetched.

I mean if the Knicks do something like sign FVV and also get AD to play at the 4 next to Mitch?

How about a lineup of this -

PG - FVV
SG - Frank (whoever honestly)
SF - RJ
PF - AD
C - Mitch

Maybe I'm dreaming big time but if this happens, you can thank me later lol.

If Knicms get rid of every team option guy including Taj and Bullock, Knicks are around 60 million, depending on where the cap is they have plenty for a max and FVV..

Then the following year still be in play for another max and keep RJ, Mitch and their 1st round pick this year
I have no hope for star free agents

but I do like Lebron hinting there is some off the court BS going on with Lakers, as he did the other day.

He has manipulated the NBA and teams over his career. I'd love to see him get screwed over with AD leaving.
I've
Jon in NYC : 8/9/2020 10:27 am : link
always been slightly curious about AD's long term fit with the Lakers.

He's 27. Lebron is 35. No one on the rest of the team is worth a damn.

What happens when Lebron eventually and inevitably starts to decline? AD's going to be left there holding his dick.

There's a pretty compelling argument to come to NY and be the lead dog next to as mentioned above FVV, RJ, Mitch, this year's 1st and another max next year (George, Kawhi, Giannis, etc if we're lucky, but even Hayward, Oladipo, Holiday, etc as second tier guys).

Add to the mix they're hiring an assistant he loves that works with bigs and that NY was on his shortlist despite being more of a clusterfuck last year, and I hate to say it but I'm starting to be hopeful again.
If I were AD
bceagle05 : 8/9/2020 10:39 am : link
I’d either opt in for next year or opt out and stay in LA on a 1+1 deal. Play with LeBron one more season and hit free agency with the monster 2021 class.

I think opting in and pairing up with another star more similar to his age in 2021 is most likely.

Problem for the Lakers do they have the ammo to trade for a 3rd guy?
The lakers...
Italianju : 8/9/2020 11:15 am : link
have basically no money on the books after next season. Lebron has a PO and thats it. Nobody on that roster is worth shit outside of the big 2 and kuzma. AD can opt in and see what happens knowing they can rebuild the whole roster at that point. They probably sign AD and another superstar and then still bring back lebron and ring chasing vets.

AD would be out of his mind to leave the lakers (a much better run organization) and Lebron to come to NY.

Not saying he is coming here but Lebron is not opting out or taking less and they will have to pay kuzma, that is their cap right there
Say Lebron opts out
nygiants16 : 8/9/2020 11:31 am : link
his cap hold is 50 million, davis 35 and Kuzma around 12
I might actually gain some much needed hope for mankind
djm : 8/9/2020 11:32 am : link
If Davis left the lakers and Lebron for the Knicks. Good luck with that, but we’ve seen miracles before, I guess.

Every time I exude any shred of hope for this franchise they dick punch me and every other poor slob. I’m at the end of my rope....The KP move really devastated me as a fan. Probably more than it should have but I get sick to my stomach every time I see the mavs play and win. We really need something good to happen here.
lebron will be like 36...
Italianju : 8/9/2020 11:53 am : link
years old. He might be more willing to take a 10% paycut to sign another star. The cap hold doesnt really matter. They would just figure out all the salaries at one time. They woudlnt go over the cap to resign lebron.

I mean with the cap not increasing and all that it could make it more difficult i guess.

I dont think AD signs with Knicks
nygiants16 : 8/9/2020 12:14 pm : link
but would it shock anyone if they got a meeting?

Everyone's saying that hiring him means they'd keep Knox. I don't get that logic. Him being good doesn't make Knox good. Same goes for Randle.
Payne
Pete44 : 8/9/2020 4:40 pm : link
They are bringing this guy in because he is a good developmental coach and probably highly recommended by Coach Cal. I don't think it means anything specific for any player and does not mean AD is coming here.

Let's just be happy, the Knicks seem to be building the infrastructure to develop talent if they can ever draft the right guy.

That would be the best move for him and the Knicks. Both parties would be a better match for each other in 2021 than they would be in 2020.

Davis will most likely wind up with a ring or two and the Knicks can get a few more high draft picks going to go along with two spots for max free agents in the summer of '21 with Davis being available in that star studded class. Much better match plus the Knicks can suck more next year without him and get a much higher pick in the draft because of that.

pros? Or was Payne laying the foundation during the 30 or so games these top 3 recruits played under him?

And if Cal wanted to help the Knicks, why didn't he recommend SGA rather than Knox to us?

At least it's not Rambis. I feel we'll have a bunch of WWW's cronies sitting on the bench, but hey it's not my money.

Players generally get better after they become pros. Not sure what you're trying to say.

Well seeing thr fact that Kentucky fans are pissed and Towns and AD bkth said Payne changed their game and thry use things he taught them still tells me hr is a good coach..

Maybe read a little bit about him before you judge it and say oh it is a WWW cronie..

Isn't it based on how the team finishes in the playoffs, then the tiebreaker is season win %?

I deleted Twitter a while back due to it being non stop political stuff that I just didn’t need to constantly see. Kenny Payne is great. When Cal got ejected against Arkansas Payne took over and they came back to win. Many have said if Cal does end up in the NBA, it very likely could be Payne to take over.
He's

Davis
TyreeHelmet : 8/10/2020 12:52 pm : link
I don’t see any scenario of Davis leaving this offseason. But I can’t see him even leaving next offseason. I don’t care how old Lebron is- he’s still incredible and they are perfect for each other. And they are the Lakers- they are title favorites now and will always been in on the best players. Zero reason for him to leave the Lakers for the Knicks- not happening they need to move on.

I really hope they sign Van Vleet. He checks a lot of boxes for what they are currently missing. I don’t even care if they “overpay” him- he can really play. I do see a scenario of him passing up bigger money to stay in Toronto though.
